A thoughtful understanding of why the arrest of so many people of color. Although she is primarily targeting the Black community, much of what she says can be applied to Native American and Hispanic populations as well. Very thought provoking.
This book is critical for folks to understand how institutionalized racism in America functions, its origins in Federalism during the creation of the United States, and how such racism continues to create an under-class while, at the same time, furthering "Big" business -- the prison system.
If you want to know what people mean by "systemic racism," read this. Once you understand the principles, apply them to other systems. They are transferable. Not to take anything away from racism. It is a very special and unique case. But this is a book about the way the world works, and has always worked.

Every American should have a copy of this book, leave it around the home, and send a copy to a friend, because it is filled with statistics and educational information I have not seen openly in other places. The attorney/ professor holds you under the spell of facts and unbelieving history of our society. This was an amazingly thought out and researched fill book.
I bought the audio book version and love it. A perfect resource to challenge the lazy thinkers out there that would rather misquote crime stats at you than acknowledge the problems built into this society.
