Soooooo, I'm not an academic. Somehow I managed to get three college degrees without ever taking a Philosophy course because, well, frankly, I just wasn't interested. Fast forward 20 years -- why is this now my FAVORITE book? After 8 years of college and 5 years in public policy, reading for pleasure was all but a distant memory. Learning the principles and concepts in this book -- in bite sized pieces that's not overwhelming -- is just what I needed to get my intellectual curiosity stimulated again. Once I get through the entire book, I'll probably read a couple of more detailed books on subjects that I found the most interesting.Plato's Cave? Tripartite beings? Yep, I'm all about it.

This book gives a great introduction to the basic problems of philosophy and the people who have provided solutions. The strength of this book lies in its succinct exposition. Each chapter is no more than a few pages. This helps to keep the reader engaged with the material. Minutiae is avoided, and only the essential information is presented on each person or topic. I was so pleased with this book that I bought and am currently reading Kleinman's Psychology 101.

There were a few topics missing that I wished were there, and I think Mr. Kleinman almost OVER-simplified some of the topics discussed. But, overall, I really enjoyed reading this cover-to-cover. Really great job of taking some complex ideas and breaking them down into digestible parts.

This Book has a great deal of knowledge on Philosophy....I always felt Philosophy the term itself is boring until i read this book..It has all the interesting facts starting with the meaning of philosophy...Its definitely a great read which introduces you to the western philosophy...The theories are well described...There are flow charts and pictorial representations..They are beneficial to memorize....The Book is not just limited to western philosophy but also has information on cultures morality and values....And also has some details on Buddhism,Chinese Korean and Japanese philosophies...Indeed it starts from Plato but gives you a wide range of ideas of other philosophers too...I overall had a great time reading this book...I received this book free in exchange to my honest and unbiased opinion. And the opinion is solely mine.

This dictionary definitely helps me in my philosophy class. It has a soft cover and is cheaper here than anywhere else. Definitely a great buy and a necessity if you are taking philosophy. The book came super fast and was a fantastic buy. It features so many terms and they are put in a way my philosophy book does not put it. Sometimes you just need an actual book instead of using the internet to look up the words. Sometimes you get something you were not looking for. The answer is this book, it came super fast and I had it for my next class. Impress your teacher by buying this book and showing him that you are dedicated. This book even features concepts that are hard to understand in class or from the book. Reading it in a different way definitely helped me.

This cute little book of Philosophy 101 is definitely a great little book to read up on certain things, if not all. Towards the center there are full sized, glossy photo pages which are cool to look at. From Platos and Socrates to Ethics and Metaphysics. There are all sorts of philosophers mentioned as well as what their philosophies were. Each person is provided with a bio and some background information before getting into their philosophies. The philosophy part is the most informational part included. For example, Thomas Hobbes views on knowledge, human nature, and fear/hope/social contract. I was given the opportunity to receive this for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review, all opinions are my own. I received no further compensation in return for a positive rating.

I purchased this book for my 16 year-old son, who expressed an interest in learning about philosophy in general, and a few philosophers, in particular. I browsed through a few books looking for one that offered a comprehensive selection of schools of thought, but was not too heavy reading for somebody new to the topic, and that would basically help my son meet his goal of acquainting himself with the very broad subject of philosophy. My son loved the book, he said that it gave him a walk through all the different points of view and a thorough understanding of the subject throughout history. His only regret was that the book didn't go more in-depth on his favorite philosophers but he understood that it was not its purpose and was very appreciative of my gift.Mission accomplished!

This book briefly covers many philosophy topics. I found many parts of the book confusing and hard to read. Maybe this difficulty is due to my unfamiliarity with philosophy, but then the book claims to be written for those unfamiliar with the subject.
