This textbook was in pretty good condition, with no handwriting or other conditional flaws. The text itself, though, might instead be called "Introduction to Contemporary Anglo-American Philosophy" instead of the misleading "Introduction to Philosophy." Apart from the obligatory excerpts from Plato and Aristotle, the majority of the selections come from American or English philosophers in the Analytic tradition, most of which were written within the last 50 years or so. If this were people's first and only introduction to the diverse discipline of philosophy (which very well may be the case), then it seems to me that many people are missing out.
Used this for my Intro to Philosophy class. Though at times challenging, I enjoyed the collection of readings and the way in which they were presented. Philosophy is not my major, but with the help of this textbook, was presented in a way that was engaging and as clear as Philosophy could be.
I got a teacher's manual, which is basically the same book...except you can't sell it back to anyone because it says its a teacher's manual and nonreturnable.
Bought this for one of my classes. It was required due to the fact that my professor was a contributor and made it easy to discuss if we had the book. Overall, it's easy to follow through, but since philosophy isn't for me, I would not read it again.
Exactly what I needed for my Philosophy class.
This was a required text for my honors philosophy course. You can find all of the pieces in the textbook online for free. Save yourself the trouble, honestly.
I needed this for Intro to Philosophy for school. I bought it used from - an almost perfect copy. Now I need to return it as this particular volume will give the user an A+.
Most of the works in the book can be found online since they are so old. You can probably succeed in an Intro to Philosophy course without purchasing this book.
