Impressively researched, Atlantis in the is a fascinating account of artifacts gathered by Father Crespi from natives of Ecuador, saved by him, and eventually confiscated by the Ecuadorian government only to be lost and given away for almost nothing. Richard Wingate connects the artifacts with their countries of origin, making a case for the existence of the continent of Atlantis in the Atlantic Ocean. Mr. Wingate shows how Atlantis was destroyed by a "Doomsday Machine" in a war fought for world domination, using advanced nuclear technology. A Fembril winter (somewhat like a Wisconsin winter lasting 300 years) resulted from this nuclear attack. We hope that history will not repeat itself. The book has wonderful photography of the artifacts and of the tunnel where Father Crespi had hidden them. Unfortunately, Father Crespi's kindness, expressed by his willingness to pay the natives for obviously counterfeit pieces, caused scientists and other officials to question the authenticity of the entire collection, implying that Father Crespi was a fraud and had no true understanding of the value of the pieces. Actually, he had impeccable understanding.I thought it was a terrific book.
I did not find the evidence presented in this book to be particularly convincing, though I support the general theme of the book. It may be good for someone unfamiliar with the idea of a lost continent of Atlantis being more than a popular myth or legend.
Excellent gripping adventure tale that ties in with other books on the subject quite accurately. A bigger and truer picture of history is being painted and lost civilizations are being uncovered with books like this. Great and highly recommend this one.
This book, though interesting and thought provoking at times was fragmented in layout and organization. Only about 15% of the book dealt with Father Crespi's 'artifacts' and the rest to mixed Atlantis theories.
I enjoyed this book very much, because I'm sure we can find Atlantis all over the world! This book was a read that was hard to put down and just wanted to finish.
Interesting documentation and easy to read. Plus some information I have not found anywhere else. Makes me wonder whether we will blow it all up again.
Excellent book on an unusual topic. I also enjoyed the pictures. I am glad I purchased this and recommend it for other readers.
