Archaeology

This text pairs two of archaeology's most recognized names: Robert L. Kelly and David Hurst Thomas, who together have over seventy years of experience leading excavations. The sixth edition of ARCHAEOLOGY reflects the most recent research and changes in the field, while covering core concepts in an exceptionally student-friendly fashion using personalized examples and high-interest topics. This edition continues a tradition of combining academic rigor with an engaging writing style that has made ARCHAEOLOGY one of the most well-respected and best-selling texts in the discipline. A rich array of supplemental resources is available for purchase, including a book companion website, as well as a CD-ROM developed by the authors entitled DOING FIELDWORK: ARCHAEOLOGICAL DEMONSTRATIONS.

For those budget-minded students who might be wondering if the 5th Edition is so drastically different from the 4th Edition - no it is not!The earlier 4th Edition includes two chapters not included in the new version (Chapter 2: Archaeology, Anthropology, Science & the Humanities, Chapter 5: Doing Fieldwork: Remote Sensing & Geographic Information Systems). I'm assuming that instead of completely removing the information contained w/in these chapters, much of it was absorbed into different chapters. Chapter 6 in 4th Ed corresponds to Chapter 4 in 5th Ed, Ch 7 corresponds to Ch 5, Ch 8 corresponds to Ch 7, and so on and so forth. If you're worried about where the info from 4th Edition Chapters 2 and 5 are in the new edition, just do like me and read Ch 2 along with Ch 1, and Ch 5 along with Ch 4 and you should be fine.Otherwise - everything in the table of contents pretty much matches up. Instead of spending anywhere from $75-100 on the 5th Edition, I bought a nice copy of the 4th for $5 bucks - yay!

Archeology, 6th edition, Kindle Version:Taking Archeology 240 this Spring and this was the textbook required for the class. I preordered the Kindle version, not entirely certain it was the best idea as this is the first Kindle version of a textbook I've bought. I was pleasantly surprised. This version has full color photos, is well formatted, few if any serious typos, about 60 bucks cheaper than the physical copy as well. I can't sell it back but I don't sell back my school books so, while that may be a negative for others, for me it wasn't a huge issue.Personally, I think this is a really solid version of this textbook, I've read about a chapter and a half and the writing is superb as well, engaging and informative.I would certainly recommend that anyone looking for this textbook, especially this first semester since the book's newest edition release since you can't find used copies of it yet, consider the Kindle version. You will carry less books, and still have this one available on smart phone or tablet and your pc or laptop, so it seems win/win almost all the way around.

I really appreciate the true-to-textbook quality of this e-book. My only complaint is that you can't set the font size for the entire book which means I have to resize the page on every single page as I read.

The textbook seems to be well written and a great intro Archaeology book. However, I'm overwhelmingly dissapointed with the lack of physical copy page number equivalent references. Many of my professors assign pages rather than chapters and I'm finding the extreme lack of page numbers very frustrating. These are textbooks, it really might be beneficial to get on top of it since many lectures reference page numbers etc. Personal gripes aside - good textbook.

Great book works really well with the kindle for iPad app, but I need page numbers that correlate to the book! Everything on my syllabus says only like 10-12 pages from the chapter but since I don't know which pages they actually are I'm forced to read the entire chapter! Which I get isn't a bad thing but I'm taking a lot of classes and I need to condense my workload as much as possible. Please make an update!

Great book and using Archaeology as a "elective" in homeschooling. Fast and great condition with lots of information.

A very in depth text. Really beneficial for my intro to archaeology class. Well written too.

I read this book for a college archaeology course, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
