The text is typical of the sort where you get the least amount of data for the most amount of cash. The author hesitated to supply challenge students with a text that will take longer to read than a one-semester introductory class. It was written with profit in mind but no apparent interest in teaching. The only reason it sells is due to some professors requiring students to purchase it.One cannot expect to acquire suitable background information from this sparse introduction. It is an insult to the reader in that if I remember correctly for the edition I read the author stated that the student may want to actually learn something of physical anthropology one day. That is absurd. In general I buy college level texts because I am interested in learning something of the subject at hand. Apparently the author was writing for students who have a requirement for a science class but no interest in this particular topic. That is not a good reason to lower the quality of instruction in the text, and certainly not a good reason to select this author if you are interested in the subject.I have already noted that is an insult to the reader.I purchased this text solely because it was required for a class I latter took as filler.I would not have purchased it under any other circumstance.I would not recommend it to anyone. It is more of an advertisement than a resource. The author's work seems more like something from an entrenched bureaucrat than an instructor.I can accept that some authors know less of their subject or have less insight than others. But I cannot for cash accept that some authors are just attempting get as much cash for as little information as possible.
