If you're planning to take the FTCE, Pre-K - 3rd don't even bother with this book or any other study guide because Barely any of this material was actually on the exam. I read it cover to cover and spent weeks memorizing this book only to find I basically studied it for nothing. I have as much of a chance of passing as someone who hadn't studied at all. And the frustrating thing is since it's been revised there's literally no relevant study material online.
Let me first say that I was hesitant to purchase this book-although the reviews were mixed. I wanted to be sure I received the most up to date version. The version I received is copyright 2014. Now that I've taken the test, and looking back through the book, I can confidently say that I believe it helped me pass the test. The book is broken down into Skill sections and topics. The format and set up allowed for an easier reading experience. This book really does go in depth with the topics and sections. I can recall seeing many of the questions types from the book, on the test. I personally spent more time on my weakest area- science. It paid off. I used a couple of outside sources for science to ensure I can retain some of the information. When I took the pretest from the book, I was surprised that I did as well as I did in math--whereas I thought that would have been my weak area tied with science. I scored quite well in the math section. The development and Language arts were a bit of a review for me, but I needed the extra review. Please do not skimp on these sections as many questions on the test will be found in this book. Many of the questions are somewhat confusing or tricky. Keep in mind the best answers are most likely the ones that will benefit the child. The science section was thorough. I also used a couple of websites to hone my knowledge in the skill areas. I can say a lot of positive things about this book and the format. Take the practice test, then study the skill areas to the wrong responses you chose. This way you'll have a better idea as to what section(s) you may need to focus on. This may work if you are pressed for study time, as well. Remember, if you are stuck at a question, choose the one that will benefit the child the most. There are also test strategies included in the book. Hope my review was helpful. Good Luck! Took the test today. I used this study guide as my only study source, and I passed all four sections. The study guide goes Wayyyyy more in depth than the test does, but I figure that it's better to have more information than not enough.
They books is exactly as described. It is the new 2014 edition that covers the revised FTCE PreK--3 exam. Thanks!
The book is full of obvious typos such as "cause/effort," ABCB for answer choices, and misspelled words. A lot of questions in the practice exam don't make sense and due to the typos it leads me to believe words are missing. Some of the information is just straight up wrong. I regret this purchase.
Do not buy, not updated. Fla changed the exams this Fall 2014 and there are NO study guides. Exam was separated to 4 subjects, very subjective, confusing, not one question was straight on. Typical Common Core garbage.
Using the practice test as a study guide works for me. The explanations for each question are detailed and pretty thorough.
I just started using it, I think it will help me prepare well for my exam.
