The test-taking tips are great and make a lot of sense. This book has a lot of practice questions and an entire 50 question practice test. Being a hands-on learner, all of the practice questions are nice. Helps you remember a lot of things you learned in school that you've forgotten because you don't use it every day.
I only wish I had had the TABE Secrets Study Guide when I was studying for my GRE, and all of my professional licenses. This well written, cut-to-the-chase, mega-informative guide covers everything from studying for a test to studying for a job interview. I can't even begin to guess how much money I would have saved by reading this book as opposed to going to "study lessons" every time I needed to test for a financial license.This guide breaks everything down; types of questions, how to study effectively, question traps, mathematical formulas, English tips and hints and test time management. It also has the forethought to give the reader information on careers that will grow, ways to be an effective interviewee and writing professional cover letters and resumes. This is a great go-to guide for the student and professional.
Spent a week studying the Tabe with this book. Aced it. One suggestion, flip to the back of the book and take the practice test to see where you stand. On any question you have to guess or you get wrong, study that section of the book. The tabe itself is a timed test, but if you prepare properly it will be a cinch.
I would not buy the Kindle version, many of the charts and tables do not appear correctly. In addition, as you take the practice test and grade it you have to go from the front of the book to the back to check your answers and this is almost impossible on the Kindle. I would go to their website and instead get the downloadable version which I think is a PDF or order the paperback here. Other than that the book was ok and was an overall summary of what you need to to know for the TABE. I would say out of the entire book, about 40% is actually reading material and the rest is fluff. This is comprised of three chapters language, reading, math, and a practice test. The rest of the book is how to interview, job placement, resume building, and their "secrets". I was frustrated there weren't more practice test! Who cares about resume building and interviewing I want TABE material, then I found out they have other books that are just practice test books for an additional 19.99! Oh my, how convenient!The secrets are not secrets, but common sense stuff you already know before taking a test. Seriously, no secrets in this book just a good review of what you need to know. I studied all the chapters and took the practice test and did very well. Test day, I was more than prepared and was able to fly through it.I will also say this book covers almost everything you need to know but I actually found more help on their YouTube page where they have videos of people solving math problems etc and I was able to work the problem along with the video almost like a virtual classroom setting. So a combination of this book and those Youtube videos, along with more free practice test I found on the internet prepared me. Again, don't buy their practice test books, you can find free practice tests all over the web.
I haven't been in a classroom in over ten years. I had to take a TABE Test in order to enroll in college. I needed this book and it helped me considerably. It's only 177 pages and is filled with only the essential skills that the TABE will test you on. The more seriously you comprehend the information in this book, the higher you'll score on the TABE.
I bought this as a gift for a friend of mine who didn't finish high school and wants to attend trade school. It is a very good book to review the high school level material. And it is isn't too expensive. I recommend this one.
I would highly recommend this guide to anyone looking to brush up on the required Reading, Math Computation, Applied Math, Language, Language Mechanics, Vocabulary, and Spelling sections to pass this test.
I haven't taken a math or English class for over 10 years, and I had to take an entrance exam for an electrical apprenticeship. After going through this study guide, I passed my exam with ease.
