I purchased book and the therapy ed book and I have to say this book was worth every penny! The key to being successful in taking the boards is studying your physical dysfunction and pediatric skills books as well as reviewing the deficit areas highlighting after each test! I love the rationales in this book because it helped me too understand why my answers were wrong! I passed my boards on the first try!! God is good with faith all things are possible!
I used a couple of study guides to prepare to the NBCOT exam and I found the THE COTA Examination Review Guide the most helpful and the least intimidating. The tests in the study guide gave me an idea of what to study for the exam. The answer guide gave reasonings for the correct answer which were a blessing. I used this guide and my text books for 90% percent of my studying and I passed the first time. I did noticed that some people said the book was outdated but in my opinion I don't believe it was off base at all.
I looked over many reviews and samples of this book before I bought it. I was very thankful in my purchase. It allowed me to target in on the areas that I had some difficulty in and really gave me a "feel" for what to expect on the exam. I reccomend this book over the exam review book that is available at the NBCOT website.I did however realize after I took the first 3 simulation exams and then took the Phys. Dis., mental health, peds, etc. that the questions were repeated form the simulation exams. As were the tests on the cd that came with it. Therefore I got better with the exams as I went along because they were tests I had already took and I remembered the answers. I still highly recommend it though, it's worth the money.
Good book to have to prepare for your boards. Lots of questions to give you plenty of practice. It really contributed to me passing on the first try.
This book is SOOOOO much better than the NBCOT book. More questions and lower cost. I used this along with the 3x5 cards NBCOT sells, to study on the go. Then I took the NBCOT practice exam. Passed the first time.
I used the Caryn Johnson CD-ROM for about a week before taking my NBCOT exam. I passed! Any COTA taking the exam soon should buy this.
I had been graduated from my OT program for 5 years. The Army does not require that we be certified to work as OT techs. I got this book and did 4 of the 5 practice tests, I could not use CD since I use a macbook so that was a con. I would do 25 questions at a time and then review the answers. While I will say that this book could use an update its benefit lies is preparing you for the question formats (which are spot on) and how to use reasoning skills when all four answer choices are technically correct.Like I said, I did 4 out of the 5 practice tests over a 3 week period. I did not use any other method of studying. My score on the first test was 62%, second test 71%, third test 78% and on the fourth test I got 82%.I just found out today that I passed the official NBCOT COTA exam. So while I cant definitively say this book is all you need, I will say it did great in preparing me for the exam. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because the CD did not work with my macbook.
This is an invaluable tool that enables the student to take 5 different exams (200 questions each) to practice their comprehensive test taking knowlege in this specialty field. It provides tips to take and study for the test, as well as answers at the end of each exam that thuroughly explain the right answer, as well as, if not more importantly, the wrong ones too. Because questions are often based on "the most right" answer", they tend to be quite tricky and this book helps enormously to learn how to best decipher the line of thinking behind each question.The CD ROM is a great addition to the book, such that it allows the user to take a computerized version of the test, that will mimic the actual test administered, so you're fully prepared on how things will go the day you take the 4 hour examination.I would highly recommend this book to any OTA student who wants to be confident in their ability to pass the exam the first time. It's definitely a worthwhile investment in their future as a COTA.
