as far as i can tell, this book is the exact same one that is offered for free on the Ameribar website. don't bother paying for it when you can get it for free. i printed out a copy (about 75 pages) and i studied from that. I passed the MPRE on the first try, with a score well above what is required for any state.also, as a sidenote, kaplan usually gives their MPRE study guide away for free online as well. best of luck to you all!
You just have to go through the free registration and then you receive an e-mail giving you instructions on how to login and download this study guide. I wouldn't buy this since, as someone previously stated, its free on online.
I couldn't find the free version online, but that's probably due to my own ineptitude. Anyway,I tried to read around 20 pages of this outline each night in the week leading up to the test. The outline is logically organized. It doesn't contain anything beyond the bare essentials, but those are what you need to know. There are a few typos but none of them were so bad that I couldn't make sense of the material.I also used a set of professional ethics flashcards from Emanuel (sp?) and an old Barbri book from their MPRE prep course. I'd say that I spent 10-15 hours prior to the exam studying. My score on the MPRE increased significantly; it is well over what I need to practice in any of the 50 states. I probably took the test a little bit too seriously after I received a poor score my first time, but oh well.Everyone studies differently--and some folks are just darn good at multiple choice exams--but I would not recommend going into the MPRE without studying (like I did the first time). Even with some minimal preparation, the questions on the exam make a lot more sense.
I barely passed the MPRE after using this book. As in, had I answered one more question wrong I would have failed. It just wasn't detailed enough. I should have stuck with my professional responsibility outline.
First of all, if you're a law student, you should know that you can get a free outline from Barbri.I had heard about it, didn't follow up, forgot about it, and ended up buying this.Having said that, the outline is not bad.The obvious elements are all covered, in actual law school outline format. It'd be nice if we could just use this in an open book exam.Unfortunately, MPRE isn't open book.If you're thinking of buying this, you should've also looked at some of the sample questions you canget your hands on all around the internet. You'll see that the questions are very confusing, and even if the answer is "yes", you need to knowwhy it's yes. This outline is good if you want the big picture understanding of the subject. However, the slight and confusing nuances of the MPRE exam questions will require more than just a big picture. It tests you on the most specific, detailed part of PR.So, go ahead and get one if you've not taken PR at school yet. Or, just get one for free from Barbri. And, go though a lot of sample questions. They're going to be more helpful.
I don't know why I didn't listen to the other reviews. I bought this book and should have just used the free outline online. Don't be lazy like me, use the online outline. It's good for an outline, the question book is much more helpful for MPRE prep.
There is almost no information in this book that is not posted on the American Bar Association's website. The author(s) copied and pasted the Model Rules of Professional Conduct and Comments, as well as the Model Code of Judicial Conduct and Comments, word-for-word (no joke!!) into an outline format. There are almost no added explanations and very, very few illustrations or examples. Do not waste your money, as all of these rules are available for free online.
As what I titled, just a simple outline for MPRE. If you have to attend some courses, then you can save the money.
