this helped me immensely to pass my licensure exam - I would recommend it - I have passed it on to some of my friends to help them.
I have to admit, when I was about to take my national clinical mental health-counseling exam, I needed help. I looked online to see what might be out there that could help me and I found this study guide. It said it revealed secrets and I was skeptical. But at that point, I really needed the help and I wanted to give it a try. So I got the guide, which didn't cost much anyway so I figured it was worth a try. When it came, I realized that I could really have something on my hands. First, the guide took me through some great test taking tips that I hadn't thought of before. Then, it went through all of the material I would need to know in order to do well on the test. After that, it helped me organize my study sessions with secret tips that helped me figure out how to get where I needed to be. There were even a few added bonus items at the end of the guide. The guide was less than 200 pages, but it was very comprehensive. I had just enough time to get through it several times and I felt like that was enough to help me pass the test, which I did with flying colors. So while I was skeptical about what the study guide would really do for me, I am an official convert. IT helps! It works! Use it!
It is extremely comprehensive, but not like a regular textbook - easy to read through and get the main points. A ton of information, but it is easy to skim through and highlight what you really need to know. I wish I had this book in graduate school because I really like how it organizes the information in a simple way in simple language. The stuff I learned in graduate school makes so much more sense now after reading this book! This isn't just a great test study guide, but I plan to keep this book on my shelf for reference because it explains diagnoses and assessments very well. As far as the NCMHCE, it really does help me study what I need to know. Give yourself about a month to study this text in advance before the test because it does require some time to look through. I also purchased the flashcards to go with it, and the two together make GREAT study tools. I take out what I don't need because there is a lot, but it is worth skimming through both the flash cards and the study guide to pull out what you really need to study.

The book covers general test-taking tips as well as an in-depth review of important concepts and theories on the test. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone preparing for this test!
Wow...if only I'd had these study guides twenty years ago when I was in school or even just ten years ago when I was finishing my bachelor's degree! The guide starts out with general test taking advice. This advice includes using more than one study guide and taking at least three practice tests in preparation for the real test. Of course the majority of this study guide is dedicated to the subject at hand: counseling, assessment, and diagnosis, mental health providers, and specific issues such as gerontology and multicultural counseling. If you're taking the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE), this is a great study guide. Happy Testing!

Don't buy this book... It is obviously written by someone (no author name is included) who had some other, non related, review book already made and tried to tailor it to the NCMHCE. It is not at all comprehensive. The content covered in the book is completely unrelated to the exam...covering biopsychology, credentialing, education, training, and statistics to name a few- none of which are actual content areas on the exam. Then things that should be covered, common treatments, assessment measures and tests, and interventions are not covered directly or comprehensively. There is a practice test (the only part I ended up using), which I am pretty sure has some mistakes in it, based on contradictions in the answer explanations. For example one scenario stated that the MSE was appropriate, but in the explanation as to why, they described an entirely different test. There is a section that covered Diagnoses, which is okay, but I find the DSM-V way more straightforward. How this book is rated so high on is completely beyond me.
The practice tests are helpful and similar to the actual exam. I took the exam today and did not pass. This book was my main source. The content covered many areas that were not on the test and missed some of the main areas that were on the test.
