This is the 5th firefighter book I have purchased to get me ready for my journey. I can honestly say from a candidates point of view, this is the most helpful book you probably will be able to find. Most books either are chapter books with no ending or they are not diverse enough. This book is put together very well and you will be on page 100 before you know it but at the same time you are actively engaged with the book. It is step by step and will break everything down for you. Especially if you are planning on applying for the upcoming Chicago fire department exam...Must Have ! Wish you guys the best !
This is exactly what you can expect to find on the test. I have taken 2 different tests and both had these types of questions this book really prepares you and gives you quality material. Both tests i have taken i have scored in the 90's. Good luck to all of you guys going into the field.
This book has pros and cons:Pros: It gets a person who hasn't taken exams in a while back into the flow of test taking. It gives your mind practice to get into the testing mindset. There is good advice for the entire entry process as well, which will make you more comfortable with each component of the entry process.Cons: My biggest complaint is just how firefighter oriented a lot of the questions are. I have taken several fire department exams, and none of them had questions like this. As a volunteer firefighter, I don't have trouble with them, but I certainly wouldn't expect a lay person to know information which is presented in the Firefighter I curriculum.
this is a very informative guide and really helped me ace the Firefighter Recruit Exams for the City of Savannah. Just remember that the Test is only a fraction of the hiring process. You will need to get your body in shape for that CPAT, and this book gives you excellent exercises to beat it.
My son studied with this and the Norman Hall book and said he felt like he aced the test and was well prepared. He was right because he got a 93 on the exam and an interview! This was for the Mesa Fire Department in Arizona.
This book has good information about general math, reading, and test-taking skills. This would be a good review of high school knowledge if you need it. I've taken 3 firefighter exams and the truth is, you should already know the stuff in this book. This book has no strategy for "human relations" portions of tests, which account for up to 50% of your score. Modern tests like FireTEAM evaluate critical thinking and real-world situational questions. These tests are becoming the standard, and this book is simply out of date.
It helped me understand concepts and mechanical advantages clearly. This book is not enough however. The test are short. There is another book Norman Hall's fight fighter exam book. These two combined are exactly what is needed
Overall very helpful. The math problems in this book seemed more useful than other similar books I purchased or any online tools.
