I found what I was already sure of about labour on page 92:only sustains their life by stunting it.I probably feel the same way about a religious tendency to wait for salvation. North America had a tremendously opportunity to expand economically when those who were stunted in the old countries could start all over with more activity than ever before:Thus they begin with the most advanced individualsof the old countries, and, therefore, with thecorrespondingly advanced form of intercourse,before this form of intercourse has been able toestablish itself in the old countries. (p. 82).A better translation in Karl Marx, Writings of the Young Marx on Philosophy and Society, says "this form of interaction" about having a hyper activity level.Since the American Civil War (1861-1865), written after Marx wrote about conquest in The German Ideology being able to impose a new form of production in the conquered areas without the hindrances existing in old countries, the federal government of the United States of America has used a feudal political scheme of keeping people from voting more than once about anything important. The unique individual is the reality that Marx links to whatever means of production needs to control an entire society to compete in world markets that now freely contrive new forms of financial deep ends for history to stumble into before the smoke clears. America is striking back at the world and its internal factions by electronic piracy. A nation of shoppers should consider this all as a basis for home entertainment or imprisonment by the FBI.
Karl Marx (1818-1883) wrote this work (of which this edition only contains excerpts; the entire huge work was more than 700 pages, and mostly consisted of critiques of 19th century writers who are now forgotten) in 1845-1846, but it was never published in his lifetime.All of Part I (on Ludwig Feuerbach) is included in this edition, wherein he states that communism is not "an ideal to which reality [will] have to adjust itself... (but) the REAL movement which abolishes the present state of things." (Pg. 56-57)He says that Liberation is "an historical and not a mental act, and it is brought about by historical conditions..." (pg. 61). He argues that private property must be abolished, "because the contradicton between the classes has reached its extreme limit." (Pg. 117)It is certainly not one of Marx's "major" works (e.g., compared to Poverty of Philosophy, written only a few years later), but will still be of some interest to those interested in the development of Marx's thought.
Yes, it's a boring/dense read, but if you have to read it for class (like me), it is very informative and helpful. Marxist theory can be applied to a variety of literary works and this gives a very precise setup of a foundation.
