Plunder And Deceit: Big Government's Exploitation Of Young People And The Future

#1 New York Times bestselling author and radio host Mark R. Levin delivers a "bracing meditation” (National Review) on the ways our government has failed the next generation. In modern America, the civil society is being steadily devoured by a ubiquitous federal government. But as the government grows into an increasingly authoritarian and centralized federal Leviathan, many parents continue to tolerate, if not enthusiastically champion, grievous public policies that threaten their children and successive generations with a grim future at the hands of a brazenly expanding and imploding entitlement state poised to burden them with massive debt, mediocre education, waves of immigration, and a deteriorating national defense. Yet tyranny is not inevitable. In Federalist 51, James Madison explained with cautionary insight the essential balance between the civil society and governmental restraint: “In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.” This essential new book is, against all odds, a likeminded appeal to reason and audacity—one intended for all Americans but particularly the rising generation. Younger people must find the personal strength and will to break through the cycle of statist manipulation, unrelenting emotional overtures, and the pressure of groupthink, which are humbling, dispiriting, and absorbing them; to stand up against the heavy hand of centralized government, which if left unabated will assuredly condemn them to economic and societal calamity. Levin calls for a new civil rights movement, one that will foster liberty and prosperity and cease the exploitation of young people by statist masterminds. He challenges the rising generation of younger Americans to awaken to the cause of their own salvation, asking: will you acquiesce to a government that overwhelmingly acts without constitutional foundation—or will you stand in your own defense so that yours and future generations can live in freedom?

Several decades ago I spent a considerable amount of time querying young people in regards to their understanding of the Declaration of Independence whose preamble defined and emphasized the natural rights that belong to every individual. Since I was able to recite the preamble from memory I was shocked that not one of these youth, even vaguely, understood that our God given rights were clearly stipulated within this document. My parents were both patriots but it was not they who were responsible for my having committed the preamble of the Declaration to memory. It was my high school American History teacher who demanded that the entire class do so. What public school teacher would do so today? What public school teacher could do so today? Generations of Americans have been denied the education required to maintain our republic and many have, alternatively, been successfully indoctrinated to dislike core American values, culture, traditions, history and the very men who gave us the Constitution upon which our republic is founded.America, once a land of opportunity that people the world over sought to immigrate to, based upon the organic principles of individual liberty and free markets, has become a nation more akin to the places people have fled from. Opportunity has been stymied by regulations and taxes. Radical egalitarianism has changed the concept of opportunity to one of redistribution using a pseudo altruism and implemented by a powerful, omnipresent central federal authority which represents the worst possible scenario that the 9th and 10th Constitutional Amendments sought to prevent. All branches of government, in complete disregard for the separation of powers doctrine, have melded together so as to act uniformly, in concert, not only against the will of the people but, even more importantly, against the very Constitution designed to prevent such a central coalition of power. Federal agencies and bureaucracies have escaped the confines of the Constitutional bulwarks and firewalls and rule with an iron fist from which there is often no recourse to defy their tyranny. Career, professional politicians are bought and paid for by lobbyists looking to achieve advantages not afforded by free markets and capitalism but by exception from government implemented regulations designed to restrain their competition. Large swaths of our population has succumbed to a reliance and dependency on government for medical care, retirement, food, clothing and shelter which can only be afforded by heavy taxation and borrowing implemented by inefficient government bureaucrats at a cost which is predicted to outdistance and devour our entire GDP for decades in order to succeed. America is heading towards an unsustainable future and it is doing so more rapidly than was ever imagined.Americans have had enough from the masters of the universe, the elites, the Washington based insiders whose covetousness of power and control has gone beyond critical mass. The American people have hired republicans en masse to do what they campaigned upon and promised. These politicians have been deceitful. To address their failure Donald Trump has heralded their deceit which earned him an instantaneous advantage within the republican field of primary candidates. Democrats, such as Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barack Obama love the direction American is heading. It is a progressive direction whose ethos, when adopted by governments, has failed since Plato’s pathos attempted to supplant Hellenic World democracy with his vision of utopia.Mark Levin is doing what American Education has failed to do for decades. He is a historian, a Constitutional scholar, a philosopher and through both his radio show and books a superb educator who delivers powerful incriminations against progressive liberal ideology and politics. He addresses our political crisis through the hindsight of history and reminds us of the applicable solutions offered by the Founders of our Constitution, a document from which we have drifted, which has been criticized by Justice Ginsberg as inadequate for modern times and hailed by Ayn Rand as the single greatest legislative achievement in the history of Western Civilization. He is my High School American History teacher who familiarized her classes with the Declaration of Independence. He is an oracle through which the vision of our founders and their mentors is transmitted to generations of Americans who have been stigmatized against our nation by a centrally controlled education system and a media which continues to do so post graduation. I believe that this will be the greatest educational book he has written. Im sure, as always, it will challenge us to understand that our liberty is bequeathed by natural law which each individual is heir to and which no government has the authority to deny.Mark Levin is a national resource and beyond that an ardent animal lover, a quality some believe has a lot to do with why he is also a national treasure.

While everyone understands the youthful impulse to rebel against authority, Mark Levin wonders why so many young people seek to fulfill that impulse by giving more authority to the most imposing authority of all, the Federal Government. Especially since their current prospects and futures are being harmed in almost every way by the actions of that government. This book examines many of the issues that young people, and those who care about them, should care about because of the way they can blight the lives of those they promise to help when transmogrified by the Progressive Agenda from their proper Constitutional purpose. The author begins with the Founders and their attitudes towards Civil Society. They were clear that the current generation has duties and responsibilities not only to the living, but to those who had gone before and to FUTURE GENERATIONS. You cannot be a good man or woman while leaving your children worse off because you consumed their lives in careless and selfish living. Mr. Levin shows us key topics that demonstrate that we are not only faithless to the gifts left us by the Founders, but we are also carelessly harming the lives of our children, grandchildren and beyond by selfishly consuming their living. The annual deficits we run accumulate in the vast national debt that has exploded from $10 trillion to 18 trillion and rising under the current President. Young people should demand that this stop because it is they who will be saddled with paying the interest on that debt. It is they who will find it harder to form capital to start new businesses. It is they who have fewer good jobs available because of an economy made stagnant by the need to feed the insatiable maw of the Federal budget.Social Security was a fraud from the day FDR packaged and sold this new tax and welfare program to the public as an insurance program. Since it was always funding current recipients with the money collected from current workers it was always a kind of Ponzi scheme. The number of workers supporting each retired person has collapsed to unsustainable levels and to keep the promises made to those who will retire or become disabled in the future will require impossible levels of taxation, so they cannot be kept.Medicare and now ObamaCare are consuming more and more money and will add trillions to the national debt. Can this continue? It will until it can’t and then it will stop, as the economist Herb Stein wisely said. But if and when it stops the problems the rising generations will face will be severe and lasting. Better we should face reality now and manage the problems before they become an unmanageable tragedy.Of course we consider it important to spend money on the education of our children. But we have been swindled into thinking that the more we spend and the more we pay teachers and administrators the better education our children will receive. But all the evidence says that the trillions we have spent over the past several decades have done nothing but expand the education bureaucracy. Our children are performing as poorly as they did before all the spending. Why do we fall for this? Young people ought to be angry about this because their education is an important factor in the future success in life. The vast number of illegal immigrants should also concern young people. Not because we don’t want to provide opportunities for people seeking better lives for themselves and their families, but because the economy of our country can only provide jobs for so many new workers each year. Some of those new workers are young people seeking their first jobs and entering the workforce. But if those low skill – low paying first jobs are being taken by an unmanaged influx of immigrants how are unemployed youth ever going to get the skills to get a second better job if they can’t get their first? We can also understand why young people are usually so enthusiastic about the environment. After all, we all want to be kind to nature and live in a cleaner more beautiful world. No one wants to live in a place that can be described as hell with the lid off as was once said of Pittsburgh in the bad old days. The problem is that the enviro-lobby has a radical agenda that is largely being foisted on the public behind the scenes. The doctrine of DEGROWTH is alive and growing and this has severe implications for the lives of future generations. This movement is against abundance and economic growth. They want everyone but the elites to live darker, colder, and more constrained lives. This must be vehemently rejected.People love the minimum wage and want it raised. They think it is a kindness. But the problem is that the real minimum wage is zero. And those seeking their first job without many skills, as most young people are, find themselves unable to find a job at a higher minimum wage because their skills can’t cover the costs of employing them so they aren’t.National Defense is also a matter that should be of great interest to the young because it is they who are put in harm’s way to fight our wars. They deserve the best equipment, weapons, technologies, and officers we can get for them. But we also should not invite our adversaries to fight us by showing weakness. We need to have overwhelming strength so that no one even tries to challenge us.Levin also teaches us the importance of the Constitution and the importance of having and following written law. If we do not limit government and hold it accountable to written law and a written Constitution we will find ourselves drifting into despotism and tyranny. Right now, America is a great ship that has left its moorings and is drifting dangerously. We need to get it back under control to keep it sound and fit for our children, grandchildren, and their children. This is a wonderful and important book that I hope you will purchase and read. You might also consider getting extra copies for every young person you know and love to help them see what’s really at stake for them.Reviewed by Craig Matteson, Saline MI.
