As vehicles have become more complicated, they've also become more difficult for the Sunday mechanic to work on. The Haynes/Chilton (same books now) manuals reflect this fact. They walk you through the physical stuff, but the electronic and computer elements.. they're really not well addressed anymore.Still, this is a good book to have in your truck... just in case. Don't buy the more expensive Chilton's manual. Chilton and Haynes are now the same thing, and you'll just be buying a more expensive copy of this book.. for no real reason.
I got this because the more narrow range manuals (year of truck) were back ordered and this seemed like it was the same manual. It's not. It's got detail but not as much as the specific year of the truck. That said, it covers a lot and although not as specific as I would have preferred, not bad as a general reference that will get you through most repair....or at least give you an overview that keeps you on course.
I bought this for the wiring diagrams. To my surprise it is just the main systems, not the entire wiring...so the seat swap I'm trying to do I cannot until I find the wiring diagrams someplace else. I may use it in the future for other stuff but probably not.
One of the best investments you'll ever make in your vehicle!This book has paid for itself a thousand times over. All the instructions are clearly noted so even someone who knows almost nothing about cars could follow the instructions. The book is full of pictures that really help the process as well. My favorite part about the book is the "Troubleshooting" section where it gives almost any problem you could come across while driving the car. It tells you the main half-dozen reasons why it might be occurring, and details how to fix them. The book also has a specifications section with torque values, engine capacities, etc... Really a great book for anyone that wants to fix their car themselves.
This is what you buy when you see the factory set is over 200.00. Fairly adequate, but I can't find any wiring reference to the factory trailer plug relay box that came on my Tundra. If you are a decent mechanic it's a good reference, but nothing like the factory books I have had from Toyota.
Extremely "generic" or basic- NOT like they used to be. If you want the full service manual, pony up the $ and buy the factory service manuals. This is almost too basic to be useful for anything other than the absolute basic do-it-yourself-er.
Have done a few minor repairs and replaced my suspension components prior to owning this manual because my model year was not available at the time.Haynes manuals are always great very detailed and have had one for every other car I have owned. Very helpful for any DIY'r. Includes instruction for any and all auto repair and replacement jobs you could think of. However in addition to this manual take time to research procedures in online forums such asTundrasolutions.com amazing Ifo there as well. Nice to have the manual and some pics at your fi gertils during a job though.
What's a book with out pictures right? I got this book to start doing my own maintenance and to stop paying the stealership so much. This book has everything from routine maintenance to a complete rebuild. Has a lot of pictures to accompany the procedures as well. Has torque settings and capacities charts also.If you are scared to even look under your hood, this book is not for you. If you are some what mechanically inclined and like to work on your own stuff the Haynes Manual is a nice addition to the tool box.
