Without going too in depth, this book outlines the basics of the various automobile systems, as well as basic preventative maintenance procedures. One problem I noticed is that various "schematics" were on the wrong pages (it would say refer to X below, but instead of below it would be on the previous page and such). Also, on at least one occasion it would refer to "color coded" areas of schematics that were not color, only black and white (how in the world did they miss THAT one??? Tsk tsk)

The whole book basically boils down to "do the maintenance in the manual". The author give lots of examples and reasoning behind why this is true, but that's essentially the focus of the book. I totally agree though. I've done all the maintenance for my old car, and at 257,000 miles, its just now starting to show valve and ring wear. If you don't have a manual for your car, Get one! Its cheaper and more convenient to choose to take your car in for maintenance than to have it towed when it breaks.

Filled with tips and illustrations, this book does a great job of explaining how to do preventive maintenance - a process that greatly extends the useful life of the car's moving parts. While simple enough for the handy but not skilled person, there are tips and ideas useful to any weekend mechanic even those already doing their own maintenance. Also the book includes hybrids and 4WD cars, something not found in many basic books. Recommended for anyone who wants to take part in their own car maintenance or just for someone who wants to know what is the real need for maintenance so they can confidently have the car properly maintained by local mechanics without the high cost of dealer maintenance.

Although slightly outdated he is dead on when he talks about how to make your car last forever.Pro's: good practical advice about how to take care of your car. Good introduction to the topic.Con's: probably not a book for the advanced auto mechanic. But the majority of mechanics would agree with his advice

I bought this book at a book store recently and everyone that owns a car should have a copy. Great advice and information that I wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. Since I bought this book, I have added at least 5 years to the life of my car, and I just got started.

How to Make Your Car Last Forever tells how to make basic repair, avoid costly failures, and how to perform preventative maintenance to get the most from an aging vehicle. From adjusting haul loads during different months of the year to reduce vehicle stress to solving common fluid problems, this is packed with keys to long-term vehicle health, and applies to any make or model car. General-interest collections must have this!

Very good ebook. Some ebooks amount to little more than a shot essay. This guy gives you your money's worth. Well thought out, concise and well illustrated.

Good information and easy to read. Quite useful for those who don't know much about cars and mechanics.
