Apostate: The Men Who Destroyed The Christian West

Whatever happened to Western civilization? Somehow, Christians have lost ground in every cultural area of leadership and influence in Europe and America since 1700. This is an indubitable fact. The remaining Christians search for an explanation. They want to know how it happened. This is the story of the decline and fall of Western civilization. It is the story of uncommonly powerful men, unfathomably evil men& apostates. Reader beware! This book faces head-on the spiritual forces that leveled a full-out attack on the Christian faith in the Western world. On the one hand, it is a story of demonic possession, insanity, suicide, mass-murder, adultery, homosexuality, cultural and social revolutions, and unbridled, maniacal  apostasy. It is the story of apostasy on a massive scale. But it is also a story of hope and victory for the last men standing in the ashes  of Western civilization. It will be a testimony to the inevitable triumph of Jesus Christ over the great men of renown who picked the wrong fight in the history of the West.

The fact that Christianity has lost a tremendous amount of cultural influence in the West is without dispute. What is also without dispute is that we can trace this declination through a number of key philosophers, writers, and other public figures. But whether those key figures are problematic or symptomatic is where the schism begins.Kevin Swanson's `Apostate' is a very well-researched and engaging work that takes dead aim at the fall of the `Christian West' and how the key players in the decline were able to weave their influence, and sometimes, even get away with murder. He chronicles the decline of Christian influence, beginning with Thomas Aquinas and marching all the way to John Lennon. He covers the lives and works of philosophers like Descartes, Locke, Nietzsche and Sartre as well as literary giants such as Shakespeare, Mark Twain, and Ernest Hemingway. Mr. Swanson attacks the subject matter with precision and clarity, with a no-compromise, no-nonsense approach. Readers that value clarity will find his prose meaningful and valuable, even if his conclusions are not agreed upon.If the topics of religion, philosophy, ethics, and Western culture are important to you, then this book will both inform and challenge you. Clearly Mr. Swanson has done his homework and his scathing rebuke of these individuals rings loud and clear. I recommend this book because I think it is an important contribution to the discussion and because I think that Mr. Swanson's hard labor of research affords him a seat in the conversation. But, my recommendation is not with caveats-which I will outline below:#1-Mr. Swanson is correct in his diagnosis, but his prescription is way off. Though the reader is not informed as to Mr.

We live in interesting times to say the least. Many within the church struggle to make sense of what we now call the "post-Christian era" in which civilization itself appears to be falling apart. Many Christians are wondering just how Western society got to this point. In the midst of this searching for answers, Kevin Swanson presents his arguments in his new book, Apostate: The Men Who Destroyed the Christian West. While anyone can easily lament the decline we see before our eyes, Swanson takes the reader on a historical and biographical journey to demonstrate where things went wrong. His analysis is sure to be controversial, even within Reformed circles. Those who know Swanson (and particularly his eschatological viewpoints) won't be surprised by what they'll find in this book. This might be a crude comparison to make, but Swanson's book is basically the Calvinist equivalent of Pat Buchanan's The Death of the West. Whereas the trajectory of Buchanan's book is more political in nature and focuses more on demography, Swanson's writings are far more theological in nature and focus on the toxic philosophies of unbelieving humanists. My overall impression of Apostate is generally good, but this book is definitely not without its flaws. While some reviewers have chosen to attack the text because they disagree with Swanson's eschatology and his views on theonomy, I'm not going to take that approach. While I certainly have theological differences with Swanson here and there, I aim to judge the book based upon its own merits. In chapter after chapter, Swanson gives a biographical overview of those "big name" apostates in Western history. Each biographical sketch is designed to fit into the larger narrative of societal decline.

Apostate. It's an ominous sounding title, and I went to Merriam Webster's online dictionary to find the exact definition for the word. It is: someone whose beliefs have changed and who no longer belongs to a religious or political group. I looked up synonyms for the word apostate just to get a better grasp of it. Included in the list were words such as betrayer, double-crosser, traitor, turncoat, mutineer and a host of other such words. It's quite the title for the latest book by Kevin Swanson, and the title is accurate. What or rather who Kevin Swanson unveiled in Apostate was a group of men, most or many of them raised in Christian households and in a society that was based at least partially on a Christian heritage; these men took the giftings they had and used them to exploit that very heritage. To say that these men were not brilliant is folly, but they used their great giftings for devious means. If you want to know the facts behind what happened to Western Civilization, this is a must read. When you finish Apostate you will be able to look at how our culture and society are run and know how, and from whom, these ideas originated from. The book is outlined chapter by chapter by the top men who influenced the Western World. Kevin Swanson outlines their background, main philosophies, and the impact that the specific men had on future generations. From Rousseau to Marx and then to Lenin, the ideas can be traced from one man to the next.Ideas are powerful, and they do have consequences. Kevin Swanson tackles this right from the beginning when he speaks of the danger that can originate from any idea that is not based on Scripture. On pages 6 and 7 of Apostate he quotes Dr.
