A really excellent introduction to these concepts for me. The companion CD is terrific. My suggestion is to try to go through the book focusing on one rhythmic grouping at a time instead of in the order the book is in. E.g. Studying groups of five in each section before going on to groups of seven. Using the book in this way is giving me great benefits. Good luck!
I looked high and low for a book that would lay out systematic fundamentals. I could find nothing out there until I found this method. I am absolutely blown away by this book. I have taught guitar for 25 years at the college level and I find this system useful across the board no matter what instrument you play. I predict that this Southern Indian rhythmic system (Konnakol) will take the west by storm within 10 years
I teach drum lessons, and I needed a method to count odd groupings (similar to ma-ma da-da for eight notes). The exercises are fun, and very addicting (I find myself counting while jogging my dogs). Very well written, I highly recommend this book.
My daughter who like myself is a bass player is currently finishing her degree in music and she suggested this book. Timing and rhythm is something you naturally have and you have to work on it to be a capable musician. This book,definitely assists.
