Boost Your Score: Underground Calculator Programs For The ACT Test

Students, do you have a TI-83 or 84? If so, you’ve stumbled on a tool that can help you easily boost your ACT math score. Are you afraid you’ll forget the distance formula or the Pythagorean Theorem? Fed up with matrices and quadratic equations? Or do you just want to improve your accuracy and speed on the ACT math section? Believe it or not, there are no rules banning the use of calculator programs stored in your TI 83 or 84 on the ACT. With some simple programming instructions, you can have your calculator calculate complex equations for you. You’ll save time, and you can shift that time over to other problems you may not be able to tackle otherwise. This packet is a collection of the TI calculator programs that are both extremely easy to program (even for the tech-phobic) and most helpful on the ACT. We'll give you step-by-step programming directions and show you how to use these programs on dozens of real ACT questions. This book includes: > Distance formula > Slope finder > Pythagorean Theorem > Quadratic equation solver > How to solve that scary-looking matrix problem ... and much more!

Your calculator can be a huge help on the SAT and ACT, but what this book is selling is basically bunk.I've used dozens of books to prepare for the SAT, including this one. I actually did quite well. Anyway, the basic premise is that you can enter programs into your calculator to help solve math ACT problems. Underlying this is the assumption that when you only have a minute or two to solve a problem, you'll have the time to get out your calculator, search through your programs until you find one that is useful, enter the relevant data, and get a result. There are many problems with this, but I'll note just a few:First, this is wasting time when in reality you should be able to do any of the problems on these tests faster by handSecond, the programs in this book are very simple. If you can't remember the Pythagorean theorem or distance formula, you have bigger math issues to deal with. If you really wanted to be this sneaky with your calculator, you'd just create a note that has the actual formula written down in case you blank on the test day.Third, the problems you face on the test are more about your ability to solve problems than your calculating skills, so these programs won't really even apply to most of the problems you see.Don't get me wrong, your calculator can be really useful on the ACT and SAT. It can be used to check answers, plug and chug, perform quick calculations, solve things quickly by graphing, compare numbers, and more. Knowing how to do these things CAN save you lots of time as opposed to doing them by hand, as long as you're experienced with your calculator and have practiced with it before. Expecting to have a magical program for every question, however, is not useful.
