I’m a Harvard graduate, SAT perfect scorer and full-time tutor who has taught the ACT for nearly 20 years.1) When a book says "with 6 Practice Tests" in big letters on the front cover, then the book should include 6 practice tests. You shouldn't have to read the fine print to discover that 3 of them are online.2) Why does Kaplan think it's a good idea to include online tests for the ACT? The ACT is a paper-based test, so in my opinion that's just silly. For the sake of realism, you need to be taking the practice tests on paper--this is just Kaplan's way of passing the printing costs off to the consumer.3) Go ahead and use the book for basic strategy and mathematical facts, etc., but don't bother taking any of the practice tests. Seriously...they are that bad. The first Science section (page 326) doesn't even give you the correct amount of time--it says "45 minutes, 40 questions" instead of the correct 35 minutes and 40 questions. And the answer explanations look like someone tried to write them all in one day...too brief and too often, barely helpful. Most importantly, they do not resemble actual ACT questions in either their content or their difficulty level.Am I surprised? No. I've been in the test-prep industry for a long time, and since then, this purgatory between mediocrity and incompetence is what I have come to expect from Kaplan. That, and an army of anonymous online droids who predictably show up on , immediately after any Kaplan book is published, brandishing predictably brief, vague and grammatically incorrect 5-star reviews. I would strongly suggest that students and parents read the many 5-star reviews of this book thoroughly to see which ones you feel are from actual ACT test takers or parents, and not paid, anonymous reviewers. My advice: start with the Official ACT Prep Guide 2016-2017, and work your way out from there. There are 12 Official ACTs that are floating around that you can either purchase or download legally, and you should always practice on the real thing whenever possible. Yes, you will also need ACT strategy books such as Kaplan's if you plan to self study, but there are dozens of better ACT books out there. I liked it for its practice test but there were little examples. For instance, the English section would teach you rules but provide hardly any examples. The only true practice you get is from practice exams.

If utilized properly, you will yield results from this book. It focuses on the main points and things you must know such as punctuation (whether to use a comma after and or not, etc.) in terms of how the ACT grades. It definitely helps and offers online guidance to navigate through the book. Great buy!

I bought this for my sophomore daughter who is getting ready to take the test. She absolutely loves it! She loves how the book gives you ideas on how to answer if you aren't sure as well as multiple practice tests and online materials.

Generalized subjects and studies. And the code for their online tests doesn't work well.

But the official ACT book. It is red and white and is made by the manufacturer of the test. Kaplan cannot plagiarize the test, therefore their test will NOT read like what your student will see. I hate when students I have bring me this book. Buy the book that will read like the actual test! Buy the Oifficial ACT practice test book. Also use the website for test prep. It is excellent. Do not waste your time with any other book. It will NOT read like the test. It cannot.

Fantatic book! The material is well organized and practical. Not only does it provide examples of the type of questions a student will encounter on the ACT, it also presents concrete strategies of how to approach each type of question. These strategies are PRICELESS. The material is presented in section like the ACT which makes it easy to navigate. I would definitely recommend this book!

After three weeks of working with this book on her own, one of my athletes went fron a 15 composite to a 16. Not worth the money or the effort.
