Crash Course AP European History is exactly what it claims to be: a brief, clear review of AP European History for students who waited til the "last minute" (i.e., a few weeks) to study for the exam. Folks complaining that it doesn't have 2 full practice exams haven't paid attention to the description of the book--it doesn't claim to Do It All. It's much smaller than the full size study guides on purpose; great to keep in your backpack for quick unit reviews. I've taught AP Euro over 20 years and always recommend it to my students.
Krieger has MOST DEFINITELY addressed the changes in the European history course. His review book (which is a review book, NOT a study guide with sample tests) clearly focuses on helping students understand the Key Concepts and the Learning Objectives.It is essential that students see the concepts that are the core of the redesign, and Krieger lays them out clearly! His presentation allows students to, then, see the chronology/people/terms set in the KCs so that they can actually USE those things instead of just memorizing what can appear to them to be meaningless trivia.Sadly, many review books, study guides, and websites are ignoring the very things that students should be focusing on as they simply try to rework what they already had or hire writers that don't really understand the CORE of the redesign.
If you're looking to study for an AP exam with limited time, this Crash Course European history book is perfect! The information it provides is not redundant, and it gives you the bare bones of the units in the course.
Do NOT buy this review book. They say that they have redesigned the book for the upcoming exam, but this is very misleading. They only have a short how-to section regarding methods of taking the exam. What they do NOT have is a single relevant practice question. The book itself is nothing but a historical review of content. Their SINGLE practice exam is an older version online with questions from pre-redesign exams. Go with Princeton Review or 5 steps to a five for actual relevant test prep questions.
So today I took my exam, this book did pretty well. It helped me as I needed it and it gave a pretty descrption of everything. My advice would be to look over all the important terms, treaties, people and to know the women's place in society. Good luck!
A lot of the content seems to be the same as the older version, but the content is spot-on and they've also updated the book to catch up a bit on current events. They also added a bit of new info for how to approach the new exam style, which I found helpful. Great!
Great book! I ordered it about 6 weeks before my exam and prayed that it would come before then. It arrived on that Friday, and I had about 5 weeks to prepare for my exam. Only review book you'll need for content.
For quick and concise review close to test day this is a great book. However, if self studying i would recommend another review as this doesn't go as in depth as needed.
