I bought both 100 Words Kids Need To Read books by 1st grade and By 2nd Grade for my then 5 year old son. We did 1-3 pages before going to bed on some nights (on others I read to him). He finished both books pretty quickly. He was very excited because doing these exercises meant he could stay up longer. He did not even realize he was learning! My master plan worked! Mua-ha-ha-ha-ha!
I have a 6 year old struggling with 2nd grade and she just love the game provided. so I'm happy!!!
I got this for a struggling student...the spaces are too small to write in and the reading level is higher than the grade...for example 100 words to read by third grade is written at a third grade level. If this is practice to get ready for 3rd grade it should written at a mid to end second grade...not mid third grade.
My 1st grader knew most of these words. I guess it's ok practice for kids that may be lagging behind or for Kindergarteners wanting to advance.
This is the second book I have purchased from this company. I love it. It is right on target for the age/grade level. My twins love having something to work on that they can do almost entirely by themselves. This is a great workbook to keep kids' brains active over the summer. As a teacher and a mother I highly recommend this book.

My 2nd grade granddaughter has liked working with this book. She was behind in her reading, but with the help of this book, she is doing much better. Since she turned seven, I let her pick the word groups she wants to practice that day. There are seven groups and she always has to do #7 and 2 others that add up to seven. It gives her some control and she like the variety.
I bought this for my 8-year young grandson that will be entering the 2nd grade in the fall. He enjoys reading the words to me. If your child is a decent reader, you may want to think about getting the 3rd grade book, however. It seems to be very easy for my little guy.
