After personally preparing for the ACT and then tutoring the ACT for many years in multiple countries, I've gained a very good understanding of exactly the type of content the ACT tests and the format of each section.I bought this book to use with one of my students and quickly noticed a few inconsistencies in these practice tests and the actual ACT. Specifically in the Math and Science sections, there are multiple inaccuracies in the formatting of the test and the content of the questions. In the math section, many questions test concepts that have never appeared on the actual ACT or test more difficult concepts far too in-depth for the actual ACT. For instance, one question in the third practice test required knowledge of more advanced trigonometric identities in order to obtain the correct answer, something that is never tested on the actual ACT.Science sections in these tests are either missing the "conflicting viewpoints" passages or misrepresenting them. Of the seven science passages that appear on each ACT science section, one passage will present two opposing arguments from scientists on a controversial topic. In this book, these passages either do not appear or are replaced by passages in a similar format, but with students instead of scientists making mistakes in experiments rather than presenting conflicting arguments. The questions that follow are also unlike the ones you will find on the ACT. Some other Barron's books that I've used have not had this problem, so it is a problem with this particular book, not the publisher.Bottom Line: The practice tests in this book do not accurately represent what you will find on the ACT. If you're looking for quality practice tests that mimic the ACT, you should avoid this book.
Literally useless. Because I have the first edition of this book and all the contents is literally identical. Even page number, passages, questions, are all the same. Please don't waste your money on this. Just buy the cheaper first edition. I regret buying two same books. If only someone would have told me this before I bought this...But otherwise Barron's is good
I bought this book after my son finished all the tests of the "Real ACT" red book. The back cover of this book reveals the fact that these are NOT old ACT tests, but rather are tests written to be similar to a real ACT test. However, the fact that all tests utilize one scaling table rather than individual tables for each test demonstrates that while the book is useful as a practice, it cannot be used to gauge your score on an actual ACT test. The reason I give this two stars is that it is the first and only book that contains a practice test with double passages for the reading test, which is apparently a new feature of the official 2015 ACT test.
Only a few questions in the reading and writing sections could have been better written (I used to work at ETS writing test questions).
Barrons helped me ace my SAT 42 years ago and now has helped my son.
