This is the book you want to get for a quick jump-start to a college education. It covers all the General Examinations. The English Composition is great because it has sample essays plus analysis from which you can use to improve yourself. It's a must buy for the General Exams. The sample questions are also good.
I purchased this book to prepare for the Natural Science general CLEP exam. I have just taken the exam, and I feel quite comfortable in saying, I don't think that this book helped me answer a SINLGE question on the exam. The book offers information that is far too general. For example, the ENTIRE human biological systems are convered in just three pages. Yikes! Until this CLEP I was 6/6, so I feel somewhat qualified in evaluating and recommending CLEP-preparation materials. Beleive me when I tell you, this is the worst book I've ever used!Please, invest more time than I did in locating a study source for a six-credit CLEP exam.
This book helped me pass. The reviews were great! The practice tests will get you totally prepared.
This book is thick (over 1000 pages). It contains several practice exams for each subject exam. I am convinced that this book alone will not allow you to pass the exams, but should be used to point you in the right direction to seek more information. The preface recommends another REA book, the Clep General Examinations Review Book. I think the other reviewers oversold the book -- it only contains practice exams selected from a test population, with explainations for the answers. There is no guarantee that the questions in this book will be mirrored on the exam.
This book proved to be a comprehensive study guide for the Humanities CLEP. However, it is not enough to pass on its own. I would highly recommend purchasing additional general CLEP studies guides in order to take more sample tests. The sample tests in this CLEP guide are much more basic than the test. Also, you must supplement this guide with a good visual book of art & architecture from B.C. to present day. There are quite a lot of visuals of paintings, sculptures and architectural items to identify.
