To prepare students to write essay answers to document-based questions (DBQs), this practical activity book guides them step by step through the analysis of primary and secondary source quotations. Reproducible pages present 23 DBQs addressing topics ranging from ancient Greece to the spread of Islam, civilizations of the Americas, the Industrial Revolution, imperialism in India and Africa, and the decolonization and independence movements of 1945-75. For each topic, students are helped in the interpretation of half a dozen quotes, while teachers are provided with specific answer keys, a scoring rubric for the essays, and (sometimes) sample essays with suggested grades. I teach high school world history and it is so difficult to find resources that are age appropriate and visually appealing. This resource promotes higher level thinking, reading, and writing in a simple way. This is really necessary for all world history teachers.
Great way to make tests and assign papers for middle school and ninth grade. With independent school students, I would recommend the more advanced version with the identical title. (no reference to 9-12)I use it all the time while teaching.
This type of lesson book is hard to find and worth the cost even if you find just a few of these enclosed DBQs useful and appropriate for your classes. Written mainly for kids with above-average skills. The companion U.S History DBQ version for 11th graders is also very good.
DBQ's are an important part of the 9th grade curriculum. This book provides some quality DBQ's and scoring guides and I've used it multiple times with my freshman for world history.
I feel that this is a great buy for my Accelerated 7th grade Social Studies class. There are many document based essays that meet my Social Studies and Language Arts content standards in Ohio. I am very excited to have this material to truly challenge my students.
I found the DBQ's in this book to be extremely helpful in teaching the concepts behind the DBQ strategy for social studies essay writing. Fits in nicely for any teacher in these areas that are conforming to Common Core standards.
Dbq's are an excellent way to teach history to students of all levels. This book is an absolute must for world history teachers. I think it provides an excellent foundation for world history.
