I purchased this textbook because one of my classes required it, however, I find it so interesting that I now enjoy reading even the chapters that I do not need to! Great book with lots of attention-grabbing data, I believe communication and sociology major will find this useful, too. Book came with little use, much more quality than what I was expecting, which is always a good thing.
For those with an interest or major in communication, this book provides insights to the history of intercultural communication as well as many concept areas that are covered in depth. This book takes the approach of explaining, understanding, and questioning challenges and benefits of intercultural communication. This also presents "Point of View" pages that provide individual experiences and opinions from many cultures and ethnicities. The text also provides discussion questions and websites to further delve into this topic.
This book makes very interesting reading not only as a text book, but as general reading material. It makes the reader think about how communication is affected by culture and opens the mind to deeper thoughts about who we are.
Don't recommend this as a text for students. The information is not conveyed in a manner that makes it easy for a student to understand. It has a lot of side info embedded within the main text which detracts from the main topic.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who desires to become a more effective communicator in intercultural relations. This was one of my required textbooks for my seminary degree and it has great relevance for those who desire to be involved with crossing cultures in ministry. However, this is a great book for anyone who wants to know and learn how to communicate in a cross cultural setting.
Great book. Contains lots of valuable information on culture, communcation, and lots more.It is a newer edition and therefore, will be used for years. This is the second time I'm using this book and it seems that everytime I read it, I find more information than the last time.Arrived quick and in good conditionHighly recommend.
The text book was what I needed for a grad. level course for the summer. It came on time for me to start the class. I was very satisfied.
Covers the material mightily, a bit dense and self-referential at times, poor graphic choice of colors, hard to read in places.
