I do recomend this book to all! I like how it does everything in unit studies. And its easy to follow, and read. But make sure you have a atlas. The atlas i recomend it "Rand MacNally, Answer Atlas". Hope this help all. And it has the answers in the back, great for homeschool moms.
AS a Home School Mom I realized we were lacking a study of Geography. It has really changes since I was in school. I looked and reviewed a lot of books and this one got positive reviews. I agree. This is a comprehensive Geography course in one book. I also agree that you need to purchase the Rand MC Nally answer atlas with this book. Great lessons easily read and understood.
AN ATLAS IS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENTS!!!!!!! IT IS NOT ALL-INCLUSIVE!As an educator, I bought this book to be used in my Middle School Classrooms. It appears to have thorough content however, BEWARE...... for successful completion of the assignments an ATLAS IS NEEDED for almost every page of the book. As my students do not all have immediate access to an Atlas, this book has become useless in my everyday routine.
I was a little disappointed in the book overall. I was looking for a book that would take my child through the steps of identifying ALL the countries, not just selected groups here and there. It concentrated on Europe/Asia. Trying to identify mountain ranges using a separate atlas proved challenging. We took a shot in the dark as to which atlas to use, which while a useful atlas, doesn't really make things easy to identify once you get into mountains and rivers. It says the workbook is good for 7th and 8th grade. I don't think I'll be using it again next year.
If you are looking for a book that includes information about places located in the Western Hemisphere (like I was), this is NOT for you. The cover of the book does mention that it is mainly about places in the Eastern Hemisphere, but if you miss that, and just go according to the book's description, you may be disappointed. It is a great resource book, though, with several great ideas.
Discovering the World of Geography, Grades 7-8, was bought as summer bridge reading for my daughter. She is now mastering the World of Geography.
I use this book to supplement my 5th grader's geography work. It is definitely dry stuff so I try to add video and other things to bring places to life, but really didnt want my daughter to be one of those people who can't identify Spain on a map. It's not a standalone book by any means but is a solid workbook addition to other texts.
I bought this for my child, but I ended up using it as well. I have always loved geography myself, but the one thing that is constant is change, so it's good to keep up with new borders and nations. It was a great learning tool and refresher.
