I write this review from the perspective of this being the first book I have read on gifted education. Like many, I feel like I'm on my own to figure out what my children need and what I can do as a parent to ensure the best educational experience for them.What I liked: The personal stories. I connected with the stories on so many levels, whether it was a parent mentioning behaviors their child displayed or their own frustration at trying to make sure their child isn't left behind to tread water in class and be bored as a result. There were parent stories from each of the levels of giftedness, with at least one parent who had several gifted kids in different levels. Her stories were an excellent addition to the book because including her experience with each of her children truly showed that there are many levels to giftedness and gifted education is NOT a one-size fits all proposition. Education must be individually tailored.Each section on a level of giftedness runs down traits/characteristics that are helpful in helping you figure out where your child might fit it.The stories throughout the bulk of the book also give parents of gifted kids just starting to read up on giftedness the ability to compare their kids. For me, this was very comforting. You can't compare your gifted kids to other children their age very easily. If your first-born is gifted, you might not even recognize it because it just seems normal for them to be doing puzzles before they're a year old, wanting to be playing with toys meant for older children or reading at a young age.Where it fell short: I was hoping to see a bit more of the book directed toward helping me figure out what to do. I need resources.
