I am astounded at the review that is listed below me. Talk about nit-picking!This is the only pocket dictionary that is sturdy enough to carry around in your pocket without falling apart in days. The Oxford dictionary is held together with cheap glue. This is just fine for my purposes. If I need to look up an obscure word I just wait until I get home to my bigger dictionary.
I have hemmed and hawed about buying a little Spanish dictionary for a while. We went to a spanish-speaking country a while back, and we were in parts that looked like the middle of nowhere. Some words we already knew, others we didn't, and there were some local tweaks. A Spanish dictionary would have been very helpful, and we also would have learned even more words that way. We did pick up some new ones that we hadn't yet learned. Those verbs can be killer though.I bought this little book and should review it now and then. The cover is pretty durable, almost a hybrid of paperboard/fabric with a coating on it? The size is about 3.5 x 5 inches, and about 1" thick. A little bigger than "pocket" size, but you can easily carry it in any bag or pouch. A handy little reference it looks to be.
This book is a find. The entries are clear and, for its size, rich. It superbly organized with useful lists of regular verb conjugations and irregular verbs. It is tough. I've taken it to Guatemala where I've kept in a back pocket, used it in the rain, and paged through it innumberable times. The binding, cover, and pages remain free from tearing, crumbling or otherwise disintegrating. Also unsurprisingly I like its size. It is lightweight and will fit anywhere, but unlike other pocket books, it does not offer an oversimplified version of its subject.
I got this to carry in my car so I could translate the Spanish-language signs around town. Drawback is that I may have to also carry a magnifying glass since the print is really tiny. Really Tiny!!
I found this Dictionary very helpful as a quick reference while traveling within The Dominican Republic. It was easy to move through and would recommend it as a reference guide for anyone learning Spanish.
Good size to carry in a cargo pant pocket. Very useful and convenient Spanish to English as well as English to Spanish dictionary.
Like so many others, I chose this because it seemed to be the best compromise between portability (pocketability?) and content. I think it balances the two nicely with a good amount of words, but not being so bulky you can't take it with you. The print is small, but that's to be expected when the book is this size.I did run into situations where the word I was looking for was not in there, but it was still adequate for general use. For reference I studied Spanish for 3 years in High School and have traveled to spanish-speaking countries on 4 occasions. Don't expect this book to make you fluent, but it's great for when you are in the middle of a conversation and can't remember a word or two here and there.
For the size (and it is very compact), this is a great little dictionary. It's perfect for traveling, and I found that it worked well in Latin America (includes Lat. Am word uses as well). Highly recommended.
