I didn't realise when I bought the book that it was a collection of articles on all facets of giftedness. The case studies and articles included are all really interesting, informative and, best of all, practical! It's the sort of book you can pick and choose chapters from according to need. I share some parts (such as Zimmerman's work) with my children and it sparked some good conversation and motivated some trialling of the ideas discussed. A great addition to any gifted parent or teacher's library

The National Association of Gifted Children's new book "Parenting Gifted Children: The Authoritative Guide From the National Association of Gifted Children," is a collection of articles that have appeared in the NAGC's magazine "Parenting for High Potential." This guidebook is helpfully grouped according to category and the broad approach allows a parent to explore sections as they apply to their current familial need. Two themes dominate the Guide:1. Parents are partners with educators, and2. The parental role is pivotal to the healthy growth of a gifted child. These themes appear throughout the book, both in the articles and in the introductions to the many sections. The message is clear from the NAGC; "Parents, nurture your gifted children. It might be the most important thing you do for them in life." The book is comprehensive, well organized and easily readable. Parents should receive significant assistance from its content and presentation.

This book has a wealth of good practical information, but I wish that it had more about the personalities/quirks of gifted kids. I would recommend it for someone who is new to the whole concept of giftedness, as I was when I bought it.

Through a collection of articles from the National Association of Gifted Children (NAGC) this comprehensive guide allows parents to explore as needed topics of concern or interest regarding their gifted child. Whether you are parenting a young gifted child or a teen gifted child, you will find information to help your situation. The topics are narrowed into categorical headings which make for ease of use when reading the book. This isn't necessarily a book that you read front to back but rather as a reference for topics related to areas such as, characteristics and development, diversity (the differences of gifted individuals), options for education programs, family dynamics of living with a gifted individual, social and emotional information, the nature of giftedness and assessment information, the nature of giftedness and assessment information, as well as information for twice exceptional (2e) chidlren. If you are seeking to understand your gifted child and how you play a key role in both their educational and social development, this is a book you will want to have on hand and reference often.

Let me preface this by saying that I have several degrees, one of them being a graduate degree. I'm accustomed to reading studies and scholarly articles -and I found this book to be extremely wordy, dry, and academic. It's just not a quick, easy read - not a book that you can really sit down and get into. It wasn't entirely what I expected by reading the excerpts online, but it's well-researched. There are better out there.

Lots of info - but you'll have to pick through a lot of text to get at somehting useful for your own kids.
