In Sam Bosma's debut graphic novel, a young explorer and her musclebound friend go treasure hunting in a mummy's tomb—but if they want to get rich, they're going to have to best the mummy in a game of hoops! Can they trust their bandaged adversary to play by the rules? Or will they be stuck in the tomb . . . forever?A fast-paced sports adventure graphic novel in the vein of 1960's manga, Mike Mignola, and Raiders of the Lost Ark, Fantasy Ball is poised to be Nobrow's first breakout adventure comic for the indie and YA scene.Sam Bosma was born in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and grew up in suburban Pennsylvania. After graduating from the Maryland Institute College of Art, he taught in the Illustration department from 2011 to 2013 before moving to Brooklyn, New York. His work has been recognized by Spectrum, American Illustration, and The Society of Illustrators. He won a Silver Medal from the Society of Illustrators in the Institutional category, as well as a Gold Award from Spectrum in 2013. He currently does background drawings for Steven Universe on Cartoon Network when not making comics and graphic novels of his own.

A fantastic comic, at a ridiculously low price! This gorgeous comic is about a young mage and her beefy boss doing some dungeon-crawling & playing some high-stakes fantasy basketball. It's witty, wonderfully illustrated, and genuinely fun. Sam Bosma is an incredible illustrator and it's great to see his writing's just as lively as his art.For those who read this when it was in black & white: the new version is large, hardcover, beautifully bound, full-color, and has additional content. Yes, it's gorgeous.

Well, this sounded a lot better than it turned out to be. The art is manga-ish but this a Bande dessinée and the art favours the French style even with the touch of manga. So I enjoyed the art. The story starts out well. There's a skeleton character (always a favourite for me). But Mug and his intern Whiz start on a treasure hunt which looks promising until the mummy of the tomb challenges them to a game of 21 Basketball. Then the rest of the book is simply a basketball game, back and forth sports action, which, to sports UNenthusiast me, found utterly boring. The last page is gross, though. I have volume two here so I'm going to read it and see if it gets any better.

I bought this book as a gift for my nephew. I figure it will be a good book for him - he doesn't read particularly well or often, but doesn't hate reading, and he likes sports a lot. I'm not sure what his reaction will be, but mine is meh. The characters and plot are thin, but that's honestly what I expected of a short graphic novel intended for kids. My sister (his mom) likes the art, it uses a pretty unusual color palette. I hear the 2nd book is a lot better and develops the characters more, so I look forward to seeing if that's true :-).

I love the character's Mean Mug and Wiz Kid. The setting is cool and pretty to look at, and the story is fun. It was a little short, but well worth the money. I look forward to the future quality releases of this series.

This book is a gem! I love the world Sam Bosma has created. The art is as good as it gets, and the story is so much fun. I'll be first in line for the next.

I got this as soon as it hit , and I wasn't disappointed. The characters are fantastic, and the story meshes comedy and fantasy very well. Definitely worth the buy.
