A great pre-marital book for couples that want to spend time preparing for their marriage, not just their wedding! I offer pre-marital guidance sessions with couples and use this book almost exclusively. It has great advice, and great worksheets with in-depth questions to really get you thinking about your past, your hopes for the future, and your expectations. I highly recommend this for any couple who is getting married or any pre-marital counselor.

Kind of a goofy book at times but overall the content is relevant. Was recommended to go through it by my pastor for premarital counseling with my fiancee and I think it definitely asks some critical questions that are important to go over.

If you are a couple engaged to be married and are needing pre-martial counseling, I suppose this might be a helpful resource if you do not have a godly couple to meet with you. If you and you fiancé are all alone and have no other couple to meet with, this book can help you. However, for a more mature believer looking for less "homework" and more "reading material", this book will disappoint.

Great workbook for engaged couples. Dennis Rainey will help you think through what it means to be married from the Bible. I wish I would've went through this book prior to my marriage. We used this to help couples think through marriage at my church. I highly recommend this to all pastors, counselors and couples who are planning on getting married.

It's important to know the context of this book. Culturally, it feels very white, pretty masculine, and mainstream evangelical. For the most part, you know what you're getting with it. (And demographically speaking, I am all three of those things). Even given that, and even given the somewhat clinical approach to marriage, and the very corny stories and questions, I still really enjoy this book for its comprehensive list of questions and workbook-style approach. The wide-ranging nature of questions are strong conversation starters and do a great job of getting couples to talk about things they may not have realized they need to talk about.I would wish for the authors' wives to be more present than simply being noted that they exist and that they are moms in the biography section at the end, and I also wish that the book were maybe a bit more applicable for those with messier stories, not necessarily have grown up in the church, etc. The book occasionally comes off as cold and non-sympathetic in its hard-handed nature of dealing with opinion. But again, even given all of this, recommended for the excellent job it does with providing questions for self-reflection, greater self-awareness, knowledge of your soon-to-be-spouse, and even for your parents.

As a pastor, I use this for premarital counseling with couples. It is very in depth (8 sessions -- takes about 2 months to complete).I will warn you -- the beginning of this book is a personal illustration from his own marriage that is really awful (the illustration, not the marriage). Once you get through that, the book is excellent. Some folks may struggle with this a bit, because it is so in depth. It takes you to a level of self-examination and vulnerability that some people cannot accept. However, for those that can walk that path, this book is very useful, particularly for those who have been married before. The book includes extra materials for those who have been married before. It can help you leave behind old baggage from past failures before you carry it into your new marriage. The entire FamilyLife ministry is really excellent. Their Home Builders materials and conferences are wonderful. If you and your spouse are struggling in your marriage, the FamilyLife "Weekend to Remember" could be just the cure. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to strengthen their marriage.

Great book to prepare yourself for a God centered marriage! It really helped me examine myself and become aware of the baggage I will be bringing in and to help me work on bad habits I have. I would recommend anyone who is getting ready to get married to read this to make sure your marriage will be successful!

I bought this book as recommended by my Pastor. The workbook layout doesn't really make it ideal for a download/virtual book. I'd recommend purchasing a hard copy. The content of the book itself is good and has triggered some great conversations between myself and my significant other. I do think it is a little outdated in some respects but there is definitely more good material than bad in this book.
