I am on my second kid taking these tests, so a many, many of these books have been through my house.So far, out of the four my daughter (the test taker) and myself have reviewed, this one is the second best according to her. Of course, this is really what matters since she is the one who is doing the work. It is not perfect, but better designed than others we have used. The first place winner was another McCraw Hill with some online access that did not require you to provide a whole bunch of info to use.It starts with a few pages of handy hints which may be helpful for those taking a test for the first time.This version has a diagnostic test and 4 practice tests, all on paper. I hate it when a book advertises a whole bunch of tests but you have to go online and either take them there or download and print them yourself.I am more qualified to review the math section than the English section. I was happy to see that the explanations for the problems in were generally clear and to the point. The answers for the sample problems are explained at the level that a student who has some concept of how to solve the problem will understand. If they have never seen the problem type before, they will probably be baffled. This is fair, as a book which explained everything would be huge.An English teacher will need to weigh in on that section, although it looked reasonable to me. The explanations of the English comprehension were at least somewhat helpful, but I am not a really qualified judge of these.This is version has a section for the SAT that actually includes sensible explanation (although a bit shorter than I would like) of the data analysis section which will be on the new SAT.
