A MUST for any organization! This guide will help the member to use appropriate and acceptable forms of parliamentary procedure to accomplish the needs of the individual and the will of the assembly. This is the first book to look at a meeting from the view point of the participant; not of the chair. A much needed resource for all meetings; whether controversial or not.
This book is a great tool for those who don't know how to deal with the bullies of this world when they show up at a meeting. It will prove to be helpful to both members and the presiding officer of any organization. It's a useful addition to my parliamentary procedure library. Bravo!
This book helps make sense of RRO and should be especially helpful to anyone facing a difficult meeting situation in which you want to maximize your chances of making your point of view prevail. It's a far more engaging book than a straight RRO and actually helped me understand the WHYs of many aspects. What it can't do is simplify what is admittedly a very complex and arcane process. The author's Dummies book may be better if what you need is just a basic explanation of RRO, while this one provides strategies for difficult situations. They didn't exactly fit my situation, but were very helpful nonetheless.
I had some things I wished to bring up at my club, and this guide is very helpful to prepare my motion and how to speak for it. I have since given the book to The Chair, and hope to work together for the betterment of the organization. I also recommend a book called Breaking Robert's Rules, and use the best points of the two. I am not going to throw out Robert's as I think it is more streamlined than the CBA that Breaking suggests. Use the two and use them wisely to direct the Assembly to the goals you hold dear.
It's a shame this book is out of print. Offers practical usage guide for RUO both for personal use and anticipating behavior from others. Despite the name-which is catchy to be sure- it's not intended to undermine organizations
This will do the trick to kick out the bullies and corruption in your organization. We got rid of three. Buy it.
Nancy Sylvester has written a wonderful book that deals with the reality of a meeting when there are members who know a little bit of parliamentary procedure and want to push their way and nobody else knows what to do about it.
