Carolyn Wheater has produced an excellent tutorial that reviews the skills necessary for mastering the basics of mathematics. She is a clear communicator who sticks to essential skills. Her sections on radicals, exponents, factoring, proportions, quartiles, and graphic linear and quadratic equations are outstanding. There are plenty of opportunities to do practice questions on each of these skills. The only minor criticism I have is that the sections of geometry are a little confusing at time. There are so many terms, formulas, and examples from every conceivable scenario. I would have liked to see these chapters broken up a bit, because the amount of information contained was a bit overwhelming. It may have been possible to omit some of the scenarios that are seldom seen in standardized tests.Overall, I found this book extremely helpful. I used it to prepare for a teaching certification test. I learned a lot about radicals, quartiles, and graphic and linear equations. The book will help you learn some of the essential skills that may have eroded for some educators over time. The source could also be of great use in preparing high school students for SAT exams. I recommend this book most heartily.

Pros: Mostly good explanations and a clean concise review of the subject. An added plus is on going practice material.Cons: Not a bad book for those starting out with math although I did feel it loaded too much jargon on a newbie too soon. Moreover and this is a on going gripe I have about these titles it omitted to offer a detailed breakdown of solutions in some cases leaving you stuck with no way of seeing how a solution was reached.
