New edition includes helpful grammar topics as an additional chapter at the end of the book. We also have the Kindle version of the older Edition and these are very useful for us when traveling in Spanish-speaking countries. The content is divided by places you will use it (in a restaurant, at the airport, at the hotel, etc).
I bought this book to bring with me to Spain. I have not spoken Spanish in over 10 years, I have never been strong at speaking the language. This book is probably great for a class but when you are thrown into another country it was not the phrase book that I needed. We used Lonely Planet's pocket guide, which was fabulous.This is a good book but just didn't meet my needs.
I ordered this for my boyfriend, who works in music with a lot of Spanish-speakers. It is helping him learn, leaps and bounds, and the convenient size makes it handy for keeping in a pocket, so he can get it out while they are playing. The guys wanted to know if they could get the same thing, but for learning English!
I was taking an online course and thought I was making slow but appropriate progress. Because this book had full sentences and phrases that I would be using in travel and real life situations, I decided to buy it. For $2.00, this book has taught me more in a week than I learned in 8 weeks with Duolingo. Now instead of learning to say things such as, "My dog likes to drink water," and "The penguins don't like my sister's blue dress," I can actually order in restaurants, ask directions, shop, ask for help, etc. To be useful, you will either have to carry the book around with you, or make flashcards and memorize the questions and answers. I recommend both. The book also has pronounciation guides to improve your accent. If you are interested in conversation rather than grammar, you will really be pleased with this Dover edition.
I love this book! We're going to the Domincan Republic next month and I feel confident this book will help us thru any language issues that may arise. My daughter speaks some Spanish and she is amazed at how much I've already learned. They allow you to preview alot of the pages right on the website so that tells you they're confident in the quality of this book. Even if you're not traveling but want to start learning a second language, I highly suggest this book to get you started.
If you're like me, you struggle to internalize Spanish. This may be just the tool to help you. This is the perfect bridge between academic learning and practical use.It gives phrases arranged contextually. The Pareto Principle (or, 80/20 rule) seems to apply here, which is 80% of learning the language could be achieved by mastering this small percentage. Learn the most useful phrases in the language and you can immediately use it. This helped get a feel for Spanish. You'll have all the raw materials for conversation.
I found book useful on recent trip to Mexico. The book contains separate sections that apply to a variety of subjects and activities that assist in being able to focus on what you are trying to express to someone who may speak little if any English. The book also assists in helping you express the Spanish correctly by providing phonetic pronunciation.
I went to Honduras and Mexico and this came in handy. Although most of the locals could talk English, they sure enjoyed the effort we made to speak Spanish . One Honduran merchant gave us some free stuff in . Well worth the 99 Cent Kindle price.
