Integrated Korean Workbook: Beginning 1, 2nd Edition (Klear Textbooks In Korean Language)

This workbook accompanies the thoroughly revised edition of Integrated Korean: Beginning 1, the first volume of the best-selling series developed collaboratively by leading classroom teachers and linguists of Korean. All series’ volumes have been developed in accordance with performance-based principles and methodology―contextualization, learner-centeredness, use of authentic materials, usage-orientedness, balance between skill getting and skill using, and integration of speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture. Grammar points are systematically introduced in simple but adequate explanations and abundant examples and exercises. Each situation/topic-based lesson of the main texts consists of model dialogues, narration, new words and expressions, vocabulary notes, culture, grammar, usage, and English translation of dialogues. In response to comments from hundreds of students and instructors of the first edition, this new edition features a more attractive two-color design with all new photos and drawings and an additional lesson and vocabulary exercises. Lessons are now organized into two main sections, each containing a conversational text (with its own vocabulary list) and a reading passage. The accompanying workbook, newly written, provides students with extensive skill-using activities based on the skills learned in the main text.

I am self-learning Korean, and while the Integrated Korean Beginning I textbook is pretty good, this accompanying workbook has proven to be a huge disappointment, for two reasons:1. About half of the exercises rely on listening to the accompanying audio files. In theory, this is great for learning pronunciation, especially for those of us who don't have an instructor. Unfortunately, the gap between spoken items is often too short for a beginning student to process the words and write an answer. I frequently have to pause and rewind the audio file. Also, the files themselves are somewhat cryptically-named, and in at least one case, incorrectly labeled altogether.2. More importantly, there's no way to check answers. I can understand why the publisher might not make these available to the public (Korean instructors may want to use the workbook as homework or quiz material), but for those of us who are learning on our own, this is supremely frustrating. I've actually stopped using the workbook because I'm afraid that the inability to check my work may be teaching me bad habits.I tried to use the E-mail form on the publisher's website to ask about an answer key, but two weeks later I still haven't received a response. The exercise material in this workbook seems like it would be quite useful if there were a way to check your work. Hopefully the publisher will realize that not all of its customers are college students and will offer a way for independent students to grade their own work.

Had to buy this book for my Korean class but it's not great. Basically they told us to work in the workbook on our own time but there are no answers in the back to check your work so it's kind of pointless.

Great book for learning Korean. The accompanying website is a little lacking (needs to be updated), but overall a great buy. I do have a teacher that goes thru the book and workbook with me, but I think it would work perfectly for self-learners as well.

The worbook and textbook were mainly geared at students. Ihad to memorize a ton of words I'll never need...it really needed an answer key...I emailed for one but they blew me off...I didn't waste my money but I don't recommend it.

I can't believe this was used for a beginning Korean class. The book is great but it should be for intermediate level Korean. Even as a Korean speaker I find this book challenging for a beginner's class.Other than that, this book is straightforward and helpful. Lots of repetitive writing and eventually goes into sentences and answering questions.

Doesn't exactly follow the textbook fully but allows you the opportunity to practice reading and writing the Korean language as you learn. You can also use a dictionary with the words and images of the workbook to unlock extra vocabulary.

I bought the Klear Textbooks and workbooks because they are required by my Lingual Institute. I have been told by my 선생님 that these are in reality the best Korean textbooks written as of today, but...they leave a bit to be desired.I'm not a fan of the way the vocab is structured...Korean has words that have multiple (and often disparate) meanings, and the book chooses to break those meanings up over several chapters. To me, this is confusing...I want to know ALL the meanings at once, so I can differentiate which context delineates which meaning. Don't teach me that a word means one thing, and then 30 pages later tell me, "Oh by the way, it also means this completely unrelated word."Overall, the book isn't as clear as it could be. I think the problem is that it labels things as one concept when really they technically aren't quite that thing. I'd rather not call something an "adjective" if it's really an "adjective phrase." Don't use the English grammar names to categorize if you're not going to do it 100% accurately...it's confusing. I am ALREADY prone to trying to cram Korean concepts into the little boxes of English grammar rules, and if the book supports that tendency by using English grammar labels--but then isn't labeling things accurately--it just makes it harder.Overall, I AM learning to speak and read Korean, so the books must be working...I just think they would be more helpful if written from a different perspective.

This book is recommended if you are learning korean and want to practice at home. I have a teacher who recommended me this book. learning korean on your own from this book alone is hard so I don't recommend this book if you are not taking classes
