With the Union Army poised at the very gates of Richmond following its ponderous march up the Penninsula, Confederate General Johnston is wounded. Now President Davis's military advisor, General Robert E. Lee takes charge and the begins a series of battles which will force the Federals back and save the Confederate capitol. What's more, both the Union and Confederate armies became hardened to the rigors of war and their natures firmly established for the rest of the conflict. This book is well-written and, as in all books in the Time-Life series, well-illustrated with contemporary photos, maps, artwork and pictures of artifacts. The book also has sidebars on Robert E. Lee, the death of Kearny, Pope's Army and a gallery of photos of those who fell at the Second Battle of Bull Run.
This series has wonderful information and illustrations. It's a great book for Civil War buffs.
This book is one in a series and is well written and so informative. It is wonderfully done with the story line and the photos.
