For anyone that wants to know what life was really like in the majority of the US,this is required reading. The stories are descriptive and in many cases ,heartbreaking.We forget what a struggle it was to survive in the rural economy and how isolated the population from the changes that WW2 brought forth. Reading these stories makes one realize how blessed most of us are in what we have and what we take for granted.
