I hadn't looked at anything electricity and magnetism in a year, and all I had covered recently was mechanics. I literally learned electricity and magnetism in a week with this book, and I got a 780 on the Physics Subject Test. Be careful of a couple of careless typos in the mechanics section, but overall it was incredibly useful, and I couldn't have done without it.
While I found this book more helpful to the less highly initiated in the topic (Spanish) than similar material by other companies, I am not sure it actually helped me do much of any better on the test. It is certainly easier to follow than the Kaplan material, but perhaps for that very reason didn't seem to improve my performance on the test much. It may simply be that a Spanish test is nearly impossible to prep for in any way other than an extensive knowledge of Spanish vocabulary and grammar built up over a long period of time. If you already have that, you probably don't need material like this. If you don't have it, this won't help you much.
The book is very complete, but the writing is pretty inconsistent. I'm pretty sure there are also some errors in the problems. Just one of these is enough to drive my daughter nuts.
The first sample test has a question with no correct answers. I didn't bother looking any further.Question 12 lists reflection, refraction, polarization, diffraction, and interference, and then asks "Which phenomenon is NOT experienced by sound waves?"The explanation for the supposed wrong answer is that "Since sound waves are longitudinal, they cannot be polarized."Solids have transverse sound waves (also known as acoustic phonons) that can be polarized.Question 12 and the answer would be OK if it asked " ... by sound waves in air?" and answered "Since sound waves in air are longitudinal ..."
I bought this book for my son after reviewing all the different versions in the library. The content is covered but the order of topics leaves something to be desired. Everytime my son had a question the answer was "skip this chapter and come back to it after you've read xxx." If they put more thought into order this wouldn't have happened.
The best of the guides I saw for the SAT Subject Test in Physics. In general, the level taught in this Princeton Review Physics guide was slightly higher than that of the test itself.
Works well and easy to use. I like if better than Kaplan preparation books which I have used in the part.
Exactly what I need and excellent shipment! From everything that I have read, this is a good book. I definitely recommend it to all.
