Honestly, how well these flash cards work for you depends on what kind of learner you are. I waited until 2 days before the test to study and didn't have time look at my review book, and I cram-studied these cards and still made a 5 (but don't do that). They have all of the concepts and vocabulary that you need to make a 5 on the test; however, keep in mind that the cards only contain basic information and definitions, so you need to know them a little more in depth. That's why, if you buy these cards, you should also buy a review book or two to supplement it. When I took the test last year, most of the kids bought multiple APHG review books because each one somehow contains different information or ideas (but it really doesn't matter because all of the are good). I bought these cards with the Barron's book, but they literally cover the same information; the book is just a lot more extended and takes more time to read. It would be better to choose these flash cards with a different book so you have more variety and more information. The flash cards also contain a bunch of vocab that is unnecessary, so don't focus too much on minor terms. If you are short in time, just be able to recognize them; many of the terms don't show up on the test. Since they're more expensive than some review books, many people just buy books and they do equally as well on the test. However, flash cards are an awesome study habit, in general, so I recommend you use these, especially if you're under a time crunch.
While the note-cards themselves tend to be in good condition, the contents of them proved to be useless. I took AP Human Geo. last year and got a 5, but these note cards had minimal usage. Most of the concepts are just thrown in to increase he card count and several definitions are incorrect. Don't buy these; they're a waste of crucial time.
These were a huge help to my daughter. She was making C's on tests in her AP Human Geography class and after the first test studying with these, she made a 95%. They're great at helping kids, especially those new to AP courses, organize their studying. I'll never let her tackle another AP class without them.
Daughter has AP Human Geography as a ninth grader....teacher at beginning of year warned that A students normally will get Cs in her class, but recommended this product. My daughter is one of only two who are maintaining an A+ average and both girls are utilizing these flash cards. During the end of semester parents meeting I had several parents asking how my daughter can keep up with ballet six days a week and all advanced classes. I reminded them of this product mentioned by the teacher at the first parent meeting in June. Many student's will see this product under the Christmas Tree.
Our son did not take the AP Human Geo class. He took four other AP classes and tests his junior year and only studied for the AP Human Geo test using these flash cards. He got a 5 (perfect score), and all the colleges we've checked will accept that for college credit.
I would actually give a 4.5, but it's a close 5. (Hopefully the same goes for my score! Ha!) The only problem is that there's an extra amount of information on some of the flashcards, and that could be advantageous if you read this two weeks, but, when you're cramming everything in the night before the actual AP exam, it's kind of a handful. For example, you could have the simplest word like agriculture, the flashcards would give the most complicated definition with examples that can be pretty hard to grasp (well, when you're scanning it).There is a total of around 420+ flashcards, and most of them are relevant for the exam. I really do recommend getting this as it actually does help. In fact, if you have a hard time sticking your nose in a book, much like me, you NEED to get this since it's basically everything from the Barron's AP book. The flashcards personally helped me for this year's AP exam. I'm usually a last minute studier, so studying half the flashcards two day before the exam and the other half the night before helped me in memorizing important topics along with examples, which is GREAT for when writing the free responses. (I also recommend in getting the Princeton AP Human Geo book, it's easy to read, if you actually open it, and has a more casual style to it as they would add funny titles, probably to ensure that you continue reading.)
These were good but our son wouldn't use them. He said it was difficult to find the cards that went with what he was studying at the time. He liked the book better.
These cards are extremely helpful. They have the words, definition, and they use the word in a sentence. They give good descriptions, they are easy to read and help a lot with studying. This is extremely helpful in taking the test and getting a good grade on my test.
