We are shocked by the errors of the book. Just started Math session, one math session of Unit One Extra Practice of total 32 questions, there are 11 mistakes in the answer session. The answers are not line up with the questions. Also, Chapter Two Practice, missing information in Question # 11. We felt like the book was just copied and pasted from previous year's edition, and the company did not even bother to go through basic editing to make sure the accuracy of the book. Very disappointed. Kaplan is the BIG name in test prep business. We are very disappointed.
I found some questions that are either misprinted or unclear. My son was doing the online test then it was suddenly interrupted at the middle of the test. The software did not allow him to go back to complete the test.
I generally trust Kaplan books, but this one is more than disappointing. There are several wrong answers and cases of mismatching. I suggest finding a more accurate guide than this one if you really want to be well prepared for the PSAT.
As with anything, practice makes perfect and this book gives you access to a lot of practice content. The book not only provides strategy, and material review, it also provides tons of questions with explanations. Yes, I know the questions aren't "Official" PSAT questions, but that's okay. What's important is getting in the habit of test taking, and format recognition.It was fairly easy to register the book but I didn't like that registration required so much information. I used my adult account to register it but since this is a test taken in HS their system automatically decided my pre-existing account required a parent to register on my behalf....but of course I am the parent. I needed to supply a second e-mail for myself in order to proceed. Seriously, once I prove I bought the book, requiring my phone number, and where I went to school, plus other information just to register me, seemed a bit ridiculous (docking one star for that).The only online content for this book is one additional practice test. I would have liked to see some additional study material and even a glossary to look up math and grammar terms that links to Khan Academy for further explanation. (docking another star for minimal on-line content)Overall, this is a solid practice book.
The book was not edited well, many of the answers in the book did not match up with the questions in a sense that the answer for question 24 in a practice test was actually the answer for question 23. In addition sometimes the answers did not match the question (i.e in a math guided section the answer did not match the equation that was written). I would not recommend.
Kaplin publishes excellent prep guides but unfortunately this is not one of them. The book does provide strategies and material reviews that are insightful and helpful. However, the practice test is mostly a disappointment. It is filled with misprints and inconsistency. Also, the questions and answers don't always match up correctly. It looks like a cut and paste effort that wasn't proofread properly.The online component of this book is just one additional practice test. Be forewarned that the registration requires a lot of personal information. Anyhow, I wouldn't recommend this book. Go get a SAT book such as SAT Premier 2017 with 5 Practice Tests: Online + Book (Kaplan Test Prep) or SAT 2017 Strategies, Practice & Review with 3 Practice Tests: Online + Book (Kaplan Test Prep) or go to the PSAT resource library on the CollegeBoard website instead.
It has all the information regarding the new PSAT that changed in October 2015, the new scoring and the timing as well. It has two full length practice tests and lots of practice questions which are detailed and comprehensive. It also has an Online access and this is an invaluable source for the upcoming PSAT. I have a Sophomore and she has been working through this and we have appreciated the tons of information we got from this book to start preparing for this exam this October.
This is a great review and reference book for the PSAT at a great price. One child just entering high school this fall. The Kaplan PSAT 2017 Strategies, Practice ... will be very helpful as we begin to navigate the college testing process. So far in reading through the book, it is very thorough in the prep materials that it offers. Practice is a good thing, plus it helps the students to understand the test process, how the test is written and just give them the confidence of knowing what to expect when walking in testing day.
