My son just got back from taking the Spanish CLEP. He scored a 70 on the actual CLEP test, which is enough for 16 credit hours from the school he will attend. Different schools have different cut off scores , so be sure to find that out before you take the test.I bought the book due to the sample tests. After he took the first sample test he had 66% of the questions right (29/50 listening and 50/70 written), but the sample test told him he got an 80 which is the maximum score. I found that hard to believe so I contacted Studycenter. They did answer me right away, but after a few back and forths where I wanted clarification about how that score would translate into an 80 they stopped answering my emails. As I pointed out “people who take it, get the score of 29/50 and 50/70 then see that translates into a 80 scaled score will have a completely false sense of security going into the test.” They did not respond after 21 days. I had him take the second test, and he scored a 78 on the practice test. After doing some other research, in general 66% right should NOT correspond to an 80 on the test.Other issues as per my son:The sample tests from the book allowed you to re listen to the statements, the real test did not.The sample test started the timer countdown when the person started reading the question, the real test did not. This translated into my son thinking that he would be time crunched on the test to finish the listening sections. This turned out to be completely false, he had plenty of time on the real test to finish in every section.He actually thought the real test was easier than this sample test, so the scoring must really be off for the sample tests.
