Ordered book to help me plan an RV electrical system upgrade. Found it easy to follow and it answered virtually all the questions I had about how to add a second battery to my RV, upgrade my battery charging capability, install an inverter, etc. Recommended.

for a long time now, i was looking for a "start from scratch" book in understanding auto electronics. a book with illustrations that actually explains how it works. this book is a great introduction, a must buy if you really want to know the fundamentals. even though it's about RV's too, it tells you all you need to know about autos. the more you read, the better you understand what you read. i now know how the battery really works, know what it really does, what the altenator does. i know about switches, sensor, actuators and solenoids now. at first you you need time to grasp the concept, but it gets easy to understand very quickly. 5 stars.

I have a bunch of motorcycles, a camper with generator/inverter/converter, trailers etc, all of which have batteries that need to be stored/ charged/ used. This book helped me FULLY understand each system and how to get the most out of it. This book explains EVERYTHING about 12v and 6v batteries and system operations. From solar, to charging etc.I have purchased multiple copies to give as gifts to anyone I have known to struggle with replacing motorcycle, lawnmower, tractor or camper batteries every year because they don't understand fully proper setup, maintenance, and charging of batteries.

Excellent source of information about your 12-volt system. Explains things in plain English, you don't have to be an electrician to understand the contents. If you have a trailer, toy hauler, or motorhome with a 12-volt system, get it and keep it in the RV. You'll be glad you did!

I've used it,and it helped me solve my problem and it saved me the cost of having someone else do it.

This book has given me an understanding of 12 volt systems and allowed me to design one to meet my needs. The author logically lays it all out beginning with concepts and vocabulary. Next he instructs how to inventory your electrical needs. This process is like making a budget--not very popular, but essential to match up your system to your needs. It pays to do a little homework here, which includes basic math. Like so many things in life, there are many "trade-offs" on this topic. When it comes to electrical systems, the typical American macho concept of "bigger is always better" is not true. For example, if your 110 volt needs are fairly modest, it would not make sense to have a large inverter which would rapidly run down your batteries. Such an arrangement would be inefficient. The requirement to add batteries would add the additional cost and in the case of an RV further hinder gasoline mileage due to the increased weight of the vehicle. An understanding of the concept of ampere-hours (which is nicely explained in the book) is vital. The book also explains the trade-offs on the different types of batteries and charging systems. The diagrams that are included aid in the explanation. The Troubleshooting section will serve as a good reference. A Glossary is also included along with a List of Manufacturers.

Good thorough explanation of 12v power systems. I refer to it from time to time when I work on my RV.

I am building a custom trailer... Bought this to help with the electrical and solar design. I didn't notice until I got it that it was writing in 2002. For solar and battery technology this was the dark ages, so it was not as useful as I hoped. Good info. It dated...
