I found this summary of "Lab Girl" to be enjoyable and interesting. It is a memoir of Hope Jaren's experiences as a scientist. She has many struggles along the way including mental illness and sexism in the workplace. The summary gives an overview of the original book, lists and analyzes the main characters and their relationships, and discusses the book's theme. The summary was easy to follow and was well written. It will take you less than a half hour to read. If you don't have much time to read or are deciding if the original book is worth your time, this summary is perfect for you!
This is an overview of the actual book âLab Girl.â Kind of like an abbreviated Cliff's Notes for the full book. It provides a potential reader enough information regarding this bookâs content to determine if we want to invest the extra money and time to actually buy and read the entire book. This is a non-fiction 'memoir' of the author's early life and difficulties at recognizing/overcoming some of the more common social disorders that seem to be increasingly affecting a goodly number of individuals in modern society. At .99 cents, this summary is a good value, which is one of the reasons I have personally found âInstareadâ to be a useful service.
This is a Summary and Analysis about "Lab Girl," by Hope Jahren, an illuminating debut memoir of a woman in science; a moving portrait of a longtime friendship; and a stunningly fresh look at plants that will forever change how you see the natural world. Hope Jahren is an acclaimed scientist and has been named One of TIME Magazineâs "100 Most Influential People".This memoir is warm, witty, engrossing, gratifying and spirited. This summary book provides the reader information on the important people, character analysis, key takeaways, and analysis of the themes and authorâs style. This is a good quick read specially for those who don't want to dive in straight into reading all 304 pages of the original book. It will help you with your decision making whether or not to purchase the original book.I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
I read this and also bought it and the summary for my scientist grand-daughter who is embarking on a difficult career in science. It is a great warning about how hard was years ago for women to get their hard work recognized and accepted and a lot of it still applies today. Hope had medical problems and mental ones too and that made her career more difficult. I was amazed at some of Hope's discoveries and passed them along to my grand-daughter, since she too is a nature lover and would appreciate the connection we all have with the world around us through our DNA.
This summary of Lab Girl is a memoir condensed. It's an excellent overview, and serves as both a pre-read to get the lay of the land and an accessory work, for the analysis. It could easily serve as a substitute in a pinch, were it needed for social circumstances. This summary provides an overview of Hope Jahren's life; a guide to, and analysis of, both the main people in the book and the relationships between them; and a discussion of the overarching themes of the book such as feminism, interconnectedness, and loneliness. By necessity it does not go into much detail, and there is only passing mention of her work.I received a copy for honest review.
In her memoir "Lab Girl," Hope Jahren describes the life she's lived and the knowledge she's learned as a scientist trying to find her way in the world. Focusing mostly on a period of professional development that stretches from 1997 to 2008, the bulk of the narrative follows Jahren from her first appointment as a professor in Atlanta to her current job at the University of Hawaii. Navigating personal and professional challenges including bipolar disorder, meager budgets, and sexist work environments, Jahren and her eccentric lab manager, Bill, learn a lot about themselves, each other, and the mysterious lives of plants. After devouring the book, I was anxious to learn more about it and picked up this Instaread review. Instaread not only summarizes the plot but also explores and analyzes each character and their relationships with each other. Better understanding how Jahren is impacted by her parents helps me to appreciate her accomplishments even more. Not only that, but this review dissects each of the themes in the memoir, giving additional insight and analysis, adding depth to my appreciation of Jahren and her story. Her accomplishments in the biological community, and overcoming her challenges, is even more meaningful to me after reading this sidekick. I was given a copy of this book to review.
In Lab Girl, scientist Hope Jahrenâs memoir of trying to find her way in life as a scientist and a woman coping with an emotional disorder, the author provides an unusual look at her life and the people in it. Sketchy in places, itâs a unique memoir done in a decidedly unscientific style. Summary of Lab Girl by Hope Jahren by Instaread gives an in depth analysis of the book, covering the main themes and the authorâs unusual style of writing. This is a fascinating tool, a handy resource that enables readers to get an idea of the worth of a book before buying it.I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
This is a memoir of a geobiologist and takes you through her bipolar disorder as well as the sexist experiences in a higher education setting. The close, platonic relationship she has with Bill throughout her life along with little descriptions of her parents, brothers, husband and son was odd. However, the way she connects plants and her life was intriguing.Although I was given this instaread to review, it was a very interesting and actually creative way to understand Hope's view of her life as a born scientist.
