This is a fantastic book for anyone that works with children. This book has crafts for kids of all ages. I would estimate from kindergarten through fourth grade. There are over 60 crafts. Crafts are divided in to sections. Toys and Games, Party Time, Holidays, Art Decor, In the Kitchen and Pets. There is a great recipe for making dog treats that I can not wait to try. Directions and materials for preparation are easy to follow and items are easily found in grocery or retail (craft) stores. Supplies are easily affordable. Many of the items could be donated if doing a major camp or activity in the community. One example is a pizza box art project. I have found that pizza franchises will donate to a good cause. (And what kid doesn’t like pizza). I am so glad I found this book. There will be hours and hours of fun crafting with the kids!!
UMM this book is amazing! I highly recommend it for anyone with kids, nieces/nephews or teachers - this book is SO much fun. Not only does it have beautiful photos that walk you through the steps of all of the fun crafts - some of them even have adorable kids modeling the final product - it is so fun. This books make it SO easy for kids to make fun crafts - it truly is a hands-on projects that help kids learn and develop. It is an amazing excuse to pull the kids off the screen - in little to no time the kids don't even realize you've yanked their nintendos awya or turned the TV off. There are even products in here for auntie Danie! I loved making the recipe book, one for my nieces mom and one for me ;) We had such a good time making these. THey're so fun and easy! It's a great way to encourage creativity and problem solving -not jsut for the little ones but also for us big kids too. I love how easy the steps are to follow, the categorization of types of projects and how it tells you exactly what yo need to make what you want. You wont regret this book - I cant express enough what a great buy this was. Pulilng the kids away from iphones and video games is no easy task but this book made it easy!!! Plus I got to look like cool aunt danie.
Since having a God-daughter I have been looking into ways to teach her and help her grow. This book is full of amazing crafts that I can use to excite the imagination of my little jellybean. Some crafts are easy for kids to help with, like maracas, fruit juice candy pops, salt art, glow in the dark spider web, and yarn easter eggs, but some you'll need to take the lead on like the Chocolate Buddy Pops, the rain stick, the dreamcatcher (if you're making it for a younger one), and the homemade sleepover tent.. The steps for all the crafts are easy to follow (usually no more than 10 steps) and only require a handful of materials.Doing these crafts reminds me of elementary school! I remeber making the ribbon dancer wander and goopy goo! As I go through this book I am excited about the memories I'll get to share with my God-daughter. And because there are so many crafts to do up until the tweens, I can keep this book on my shelf as long as she's willing to craft with me.
I am having so much fun using this book as a babysitter, but I'm sure that the intended audience of parents and family would have just as much fun. I always felt a little weird about just putting on a movie with the kids, but these crafts are great for getting kids involved in working with each other. There are also a ton of ways to increase kids' involvement based on their age--older kids can read out instructions or do basic ruler measurement, while younger kids might enjoy choosing the colors you use to create these projects. I also love that most of these projects are functioning once you're done! There's lots of art options for decoration, sure, but you can also make coasters, a tote bag (to teach sustainable shopping!) a frame, etc. And honestly, if you're anything like me, you're going to enjoy the excuse for arts and crafts just as much as the kids do.
I'm always looking for new ways to engage my children that doesn't involve the television or computer, It's not that I'm against technology, but I do believe some balance in life, especially at a young age, is essential to happiness and well-being. This book does a great job of introducing interesting and varied crafts/activities, while presenting them with easy to follow steps accompanied by beautiful color pictures. In addition to many non-edible activities this book also includes fun baking and cooking projects! However, I have to say my favorites were the glow in the dark spider-web (no noise, and glowing stuff is always fun), and the homemade kite (which worked surprisingly well, but soon broke). Besides these, there are 50+ other suggestions and the ones I've tried have all been a hit with all participants!
Although technology has given kids a whole host of entertaining options, nothing beats the satisfaction of sitting down and creating something tangible and real and yours, unfortunately this is something lacking in the lives of many kids these days. This book is amazing in that it allows grownups who may be varying levels of "crafty themselves , to sit down with the kids in their lives and to make fun crafts with them. I myself am not at all artistically inclined however instructions are well written and simple and the projects are actually fun so that no one involved feels like it's a chore. Anyone who spends time with children regularly should add this to their arsenal from practical but fun like the "Chore Tracker",things that will blow kids' minds like the 3d kite and a bunch of other games and crafts that will keep everyone entertained and engaged.
