The book is a decent study guide to supplement the PMBOK, however, it didn't come with any flashcards as it says it should on the front of the book, AND I haven't been able to log into the website for online testing because the site will not send a verification email to complete my registration. I've also noticed one or two questions in the book, with answers that are clearly wrong. (I went back to the PMBOK and verified). Chapter 2, #11 is not C, it's A. I'm sure it's just a typo, but that could be pretty crucial to someone who doesn't know better. It also mentions a CD-rom that should've come with the book. Nope, didn't get that either. The whole point is to be able to take practice tests so that is a big disappointment.Update: I contacted customer service yesterday and they were very helpful. They responded within an hour and informed me that the website is undergoing maintenance and provided me with a generic passcode that I am able to use to log in and take practice exams. The text does mention a CD-rom and flashcards, but that is all incorporated on the website now according to them. The flashcards can be printed from the website and the various chapters in the book remind you to do that. The misprints can't be helped at this point, but I'm giving this book a 3-star rating (up from 1-star). Customer service is excellent and all the information is available, but the fact still remains that the book isn't as polished as it should be. However, along with the PMBOK, I believe the information in this book will help you pass the test but there is no substitute for reading and due diligence.
The 5th edition of Achieve PMP Exam Success is THE exam preparation text to accompany "A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide)." I have the privilege of teaching PMP hopefuls and this is the text I use exclusively for my students in my PMP exam prep classes. The updated 5th edition incorporates the latest changes in the 5th edition PMBOK and takes PMI's language and translates it into easy-to-understand content giving the exam taker deeper insight as to the meaning behind the project management knowledge areas and processes. What I especially like is that CPC has upgraded from an accompanying CD with 1200 sample questions in the 4th edition to an online format for the 5th edition. They also provide access to a flashcard study aid, a self-study exercise to understand the interdependencies of the 47 processes, and a training aide for better understanding process interdependencies. The text's chapter topics are in the same order as the PMBOK chapters eliminating confusion as to where a specific subject resides making review and research easy. They once again included their "Exam Tips" within each chapter further explaining how exam takers should interpret the context of exam questions. Two comprehensive sample question exams (at the beginning and end of the book) and a 15-question exam at the end of each chapter are available. Their philosophy, as well as many others, is that the more practice exams/questions you complete, the better your chances of passing. Bravo to Janice and Diane for delivering big on this latest edition!
Authors Janice and Diane have done it again! The latest update to Achieve PMP Exam Success is the ultimate source for PMP Exam preparation and is even better than the previous edition. Not only does this title contain all of the necessary updates to support the latest version of the PMP Exam, the format and layout of the material makes for an incredibly efficient learning experience. Unlike other PMP Exam Prep books I've seen, this text has a very easy-to-understand and functional approach to presenting each topic - and it's aligned to the order of the PMBOK 5. The online format of the exam questions provide an excellent simulation of what you can expect on exam day - even down to the timing! "Practice, practice, practice" is one of the most important methods for passing on your first try, and Achieve PMP Exam Success certainly presents you with plenty of practice questions. If you do nothing else to prepare for the new PMP Exam, USE THIS BOOK as your source for knowledge and preparation. You won't be disappointed!
As a PMP trainer I scout the market for PMP study guides and some years ago came to the conclusion that "Achieve PMP Exam Success 4th Edition" was one of the best prep books on the market to supplement the PMBOK Guide to delight of our participants. To my great pleasure I saw "Achieve PMP Exam Success 5th Edition" was out and in my opinion even better than the 4th edition which says a lot. The coverage of the PMBOK Guide PMP fifth edition is excellent, key topics/concepts, and the range of techniques are explained, easy to learn and best of all free online access to practice questions and actual exams which helps the participants passing the PMP exams with confidence and in less time. All in all a great PMP prep book which gives high value for the money.
I use this text to teach students to pass the PMP Exam. We have a great success rate and I attribute it to the fine work in the book. The reading material and exercises are clear and concise and students can use this for review without a teacher very successfully. The exercises help students with complex materials and facilitates understanding essential to passing the exam. The textbank is also very useful. I am so grateful for the timely addition of this new text.
