This is a great study guide for ACLS or renewal. I read all the practice questions the night before and received a 98% on the test. The analysis of each answer really helped me understand and retain eveything. I have since shared it with co-workers when they are due to renew their ACLS.
This was a helpful tool to study for the exam! Only took off a star because it really bothered me that there were multiple typos. The SpongeBob theme was a little odd as well haha. All in all though, it was helpful and focused.
Face it, even if we run codes these questions can be tricky - and try to keep up with the ever changing AHA guidelines. The pre-amble to test questions is well organized easy reading, useful and interesting. The test answers with explanations speak for themselves. It's a great pre-course study guide for passing the certification exam and focused for that purpose
This is a comprehensive yet concise review book. I have to recertify every two years and found it a great refresher course of the details of practice that we are consistently tested on but may not stick in memory. I can also appreciate its value for the first time student. It gave me confidence to go into class confident I knew what I was doing and could convey that when tested. Highly recommend it!
An outstanding guide ..Helped me pass the course ,easy to follow !!!!highly recommended!!
This book is excellent. There are many practice questions to get you prepared. Lots of practical and usable information and advice about the ACLS class and exam. I highly recommend this book. Get it! You and your patient will be glad you did.
Basically a book of questions with answers. Contains several typos as well. I was able to find free practice tests on line with explanations. This book was not what I expected. Save your money.
I spent a little time reviewing this publication. May I offer a few things that may warrant a second look?1. Page 15. In my reading of the AHA material, the AHA acknowledges that memorizing the algorithms is unrealistic. I suggest the focus on learning how to read and use the algorithms. According to the AHA ECC Program Administration Manual, the students can use the algorithms for simulation / mega-code practice and testing. Secondly, the pocket or card sized algorithms is what is often used at the bedside. Learning to know how to use the algorithms is a part of the course. I practice with the card to get the students comfortable, and once they are comfortable having itâ¦theyâre a great tool and resource.I often share with the students the explanation behind the color scheme found on the algorithms:Green = treatment box at the basic level (IV, O2, monitor, 12 lead)Salmon or pink box with round corners = decision boxBlue box = treatment at the advanced level (drugs and electricity)Gray box = information resource2. Page 25 Myth 4 canât we use adults pads on an infant if thatâs all we have?3. Myth 5 Will pads stick on wet skin? Maybe technology has improved, but I remember patients sweaty with diaphoresis from ACS often present a challenge to keep the pads from coming off or sliding around.4. Page 26: AED 360J? Maybe some. I think the Phillips (common around here) delivers 180 for the adult pads or something like that.5. Page 27: CPR and hands only. I know this is an ACLS resource, but maybe worth mentioning that recent retroactive studies show that kids who go into cardiac arrest due to hypoxia (most common cause of cardiac arrest excluding trauma) and ventilation is not provided with compressionsâthe survival rate was the same as the kids who did not receive CPR at all. Zero.6. Page 30: Epinephrine infusion was excluded in the treatment of bradycardia as an option to TCP.7. Page 31: We often get into some discussion re the use of Adenosine in treating WPW. Most physicians in my simulation rooms say to use caution. The ECC Guidelines for CPR and ECC highly recommends placing a defibrillator close by, which is standard practice here in the hospital.I stopped when I got to the questions in the PDF file. Best of luck to the authors!
