I received a gratis copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This in no way has affected my thoughts on the product.When I first opened this package, I was actually a little disappointed. The book was a bit smaller than I was expecting. Usually with these types of books, they are heavy enough to knock intruders out stone cold. This one was not a small book, by any means, but it wasn't large either. Just an average, 220 page book. That immediately put me off of the book.Then, however, I opened it up and started to actually READ the material. It is a great study guide! It breaks things down into different grammatical categories. The following is a list of some (but not NEARLY ALL) of the topics covered in this guide: Common suffixes and prefixes and their meanings; Grammatical and literary terms and their definitions; Opposing arguments and supporting evidence; Topics and main ideas; Finding the theme; etc. There is some GREAT information in this book. There is even a section on proper punctuation usage, which, as an English teacher myself, is where I find many, many students are sorely lacking.Another thing that I absolutely LOVED about this book is that is basically a mixed media publication. Yes. It is a book. But each topic includes a web address that links the reader to a very informative video explaining and demonstrating the topic being covered in that section. How freaking great is that?! Today's youth are especially hooked on visual learning and technology. This book is the perfect answer to that. If you are reading the section, and the words are kind of floating past you and not making much sense, no problem. Type the link into your browser and have someone else explain it to you!
