This book is excellent and does exactly what it sets out to do, namely give medical students a great resource for teaching themselves medical Physiology. It's not a detail oriented reference book, there are plenty of those on the market if that is what you are looking for. This is the book you would use to supplement your class notes/powerpoints while taking Phys in medical school. After reading this cover to cover, using the authors BRS Phys book for Step 1 prep would be the natural progression as her BRS is just the cliff notes of this text. It's a wonderfully written book with a logical flow and appropriate use of pictures to get the point across. Very clear explanations with alot of the superfluous fluff left on the cutting room floor.
As a medical student, I have found this book to be enormously helpful in my physiology class. It's much shorter and more concise than other textbooks, and still has all the information I need. It has great photos and diagrams, and really helpful explanations. Plus, the author, Linda Costanzo, also wrote the BRS book for physiology, so the two tie together really well. I definitely would recommend this book to first year medical students!
Best physiology book overall for medical school. Almost a must have. You can get away without it, but it's SO much easier to just take the time to read the book. Everything is crystal clear, easy to read, and CONCISE (which is apparently the most challenging thing to do when writing medical textbooks).
Makes all of the material very approachable and straight forward. The images are good. It's more of a supplement for me than a text I can rely on to cover everything in the depth I need to know. Very good for topics that are more difficult to understand.
Life saver! Are you in medical school and needing a slick book to get you through organ systems? Well look no further, this book is by far the best resource I've found for clearly laying out the principles and building a solid foundation to build on.
So far I have only read a couple chapters in this book but Linda is the truth! She takes the complicated concepts that my professors at school have trouble explaining/conveying to the class and puts it in lay man's terms. Medical school physiology does not have to be hard and Linda proves this with her simple explainations and simple illustrations. I advise any medical student who is having trouble grasping concepts in class to purchase this ASAP!
I loved this look as it arrived to me today as I was reading a subject in renal physiology.I had Kaplan lecture notes in physiology 2012 and Guyton Pocket physiology and BRS physiology 2011.This one is has easy explanations and that what is needed not merely the equations.Any way any of the mentioned book has its way in the subject but overall this book has fairly medium-large sized letters, very good illustrations and introduction to the subjects PERFECT.5+ stars to the and Editors and Publishers of this book
Buy anything the Dr. Costanzo writes, because it's all incredibly clear and crazy helpful for medical school. Good luck studying!
